DD 12 dress very short for family wedding

We have a family wedding coming up in a few weeks and both my dds have had dresses brought for them to wear by the bride. My 12yo is very tall and the biggest size dress (age 13-14) is coming up to mid thigh. The options appear to be get a dress maker to add a panel at the bottom of the dress to give it length or wear something underneath it.

Any suggestions as to what could be worn underneath so it doesn't look naff?

Could she wear it as a top with some skinny trousers underneath?

Of can you tell the bride it doesn't fit her?

I'm completely prissy about what people wear to weddings but your DD looks gorgeous in that. No adjustments needed IMO

Bless her, she looks lovely and you'll be giving her a complex. Just leave her be.

I don't think it's too short either.

How comes the bride bought their dresses? Are they bridesmaids? (Doesn't look bridesmaid-y?) if so I assume you can't alter it otherwise wouldn't match the others?
I'd tell her that it doesn't fit and she's not comfortable in it.

Why can't she wear it as is?

It's very pretty - as a tunic, not a dress! I think adding a panel would spoil it, but I'm not a dressmaker. Agree trousers or leggings is the way to go. If bride won't go for that, she needs an alternative plan.

I think it looks fine too.

I get what you mean, your DD looks kind of hunched over (or uncomfortable) which makes it look a bit longer than it is, if she stands up straight with shoulders back then yes it's quite short.

Does she feel uncomfortable in it?

The length is fine though the dress isn't very weddingy.

I think it's absolutely fine.

I think she looks lovely. Does your daughter think it's too short, if so tell the bride. If your daughter thinks it's fine then keep it as it is.

How does she feel about wearing a shirt dress? On the photo it doesn't seem too bad - 14y dd has many a dress that short through choice by the looks of it.

Gorgeous dress and gorgeous dd but she doesn't look comfortable. Agree that leggings are a good option if there's a reason that the bride wants this dress worn

I think she looks uncomfortable in that photo, hunching a little and bending her knees. She's 12 so will want to jump around the dance floor, so it would be a shame if she felt awkward.

Either different dress or something underneath.

But if your dd isn't comfortable in it, consult the bride.

My 8yo would wear it with some white cropped leggings underneath.

Yes, I agree with pp. I'd get her some white cropped leggins too. I would have felt equally uncomfortable at 12. I don't think anyone could reasonably object to that.

Doesn't really matter if we think it's fine or not, if OP's dd isn't comfortable in it, then it needs to be changed.
I too am confused why the bride has bought them - are they all to match, like bridesmaids? (in which case it's even more important she's comfy, if she's going to be photographed all day). You can't therefore alter it.
Obviously if they aren't matching then it's easy, just take it back and get something else, but if they are then you have to go back to the bride and let her know the issue.

It's a tunic, not a dress. Should be worn with leggings or similar.
