Feeling fat and frumpy

Having a fat and frumpy few days.

Am 5ft 5, about 9 stone which I know isn't fat but I feel like my thighs / hips look bigger than the rest of me. I tend to wear leggings / skinny jeans and baggy / longline tops (floaty ones mainly) and boots or pumps at the moment.

I feel like a middle aged woman I am a middle aged woman but don't want to feel like one

Any suggestions? I love the sort of clothes that Fearne Cotton wears but hate the sort of clothes Holly Willoughby wears if that helps.

Dresses? If you don't like your thighs (I feel your pain) a dress that's fitted at the top and then fuller below the waist is perfect. Like Fearne's here there are loads of dresses a similar shape on the high street, in lots of colours.

You can wear with leggings, or not if you prefer (I wear knee-length dresses like this with bare legs) and pumps or sandals. Cardie or jacket on top.

Go onto Pinterest and search for clothes for pear shapes to get an idea of the shapes to work with.

Fearne has an athletic, dancers, body, so the shapes she wears might not suit. Holly is more of an hourglass.

If your tops are ending at your widest part, they will emphasise it, rather than hide.

I found a good guide to finding your proportions a while ago, I will try to link.

You aren't fat at all, but I know what you mean - you just feel that way.

As well as the great fashion tips you are getting here, do you think you could make a difference by toning-up, if you aren't toned at the moment? It could make all the difference to how you feel and make you look/feel sleeker iyswim. Pilates or Callanetics are good for tightening it all up and drawing it in.

I am very hippy/thighy/peary so I feel your pain.

Sorry, been ill and offline - not ignoring you.

I think you have hit the nail on the head about outfits stopping at the widest part, I'm actually hourglass shape (so I'm told) but I think not dressing for that. I also have short legs which doesn't help the illusion - I went through a stage of wearing heels which probably helped - think I have got lazy recently though and reverted to boots leggings and floaty tops. Thank you for the kick up the bum, just what I needed!

I feel the same-I'm 5ft 2 and 8 stone 10,I'm in no way over weight and I would never say this in RL but I feel frumpy-I've got very wobbly thighs,I carry all my weight on my hips and arse. I could definitely do with toning up. I feel best in skinny jeans, longer tops and a heel.
