Can I rant about Zara please?

I ordered a bag online. Just a basic fabric summer type bag. (The Jacquard bag if you are interested)
They sent it. Lovely. I used it - and realised they had left the electronic security tag on it. I e mailed. They say I need to take it to the nearest shop - that would be a 3 hour round trip for me. When pressed they offer a courier collection on a day when I am out (offer not repeated for another day). I ummed and aahed and after umpteen e mails - all suggesting I take it to my nearest store - I posted it back for the tag to be removed, with a careful note to that effect. But no, they refunded it.... I phoned but nothing they could do as it had been refunded.
I re-ordered. It arrived yesterday - and ... the security tag is on it!

  1. what do I do? (Likely outcome is for me to use bag - carrying the receipt at all times - until I am next going to big city with Zara next month and can get them to take tag off)
  2. how can I be horrid to them as I am feeling very vindictive (I won't do this but would like to fantasise).

I know they don't have to bother because we will all keep buying their stuff, but this is making me cross (in a first world problem way).

Complain again but via social media?

I would post this on their Twitter/Instagram pages. That might bother them.

They should send you another bag.

Yes call their customer services or post on social media - I'd want a new bag sent without tag, for free now after this.

(And I'm in Retail buying so ANBU Wink)

As a total dinosaur, I am not up to speed with social media (Mumsnet is my limit) but I might try calling. I am sceptical about another bag being sent as I fear yet another tag - I think its to do with the way they fold the bags - so a solution depends on them being prepared to apply a person to it instead of a robot or some poor down trodden recent immigrant who is being paid a pittance on a zero hours contract. (Am I over thinking this?)
Thank you. I feel better for knowing that others would feel equally cross and that I am not just throwing a tantrum!

What a PITA. I've called up their customer service number before and they were extremely helpful (about a faulty item), have you tried speaking to someone directly? Either their phone number (0800 014 2993) or the nearest store?

Is it one of the simple security tags all shops use?

You could take it in somewhere nearer (so not a zara, any shop which uses the tags) and get them to remove it?

Worth a try?

I've gone off Zara in the past few years (doesn't help they have moody Spanish speaking staff in virtually all the stores I've been in).

The only nice top I've bought from them recently was in Gran Canaria last autumn.

What is it with Zara and their stupid tags? I've had this issue with 2 pairs of Zara shoes, tags weren't removed and I beeped every time I walked in a store. Giant PITA.

Sorry not helpful, just joining in the rant Angry

I ordered the same jacquard bag online, collected it in store, took it home without opening the box up, and it also had the security tag on!

Ugh I'm annoyed for you OP! Get someone else to take to Twitter / Instagram for you maybe if you don't have any luck with phone. I'll remember not to buy anything from Zara online!

Naming and shaming on social media is the only way. Over and over again until they're forced to respond. so satisfying.

What type of tag is it? Lots can actually be removed at home if you find the right video on YouTube, I only know this because I bought a pair of jeans in the USA and only realised when I got home by the way

twunting the tags tend to have ink in them so if they're removed incorrectly then the item may end up ruined from the ink!

I bet most shops with a security tag system could remove it for you, just take the receipt along with you to prove you're not pulling a fast one. Is there somewhere you shop at regularly and close by who might help?

Thank you all! Update: encouraged by you all, I spoke to customer services who were fantastic. After some good natured horse trading, I suggested that if they could ensure the tag was NOT on it, that they send me another one now and if it arrived with no tag I would keep it, otherwise, I would send both back and give up. He phoned various departments and has just phoned back and agreed the plan. Hopefully anyone ordering the bag won't get the tag! They are given me a 'free express delivery' to use next time too. I am happy because its saved me a trip which was all I wanted to achieve. Well provided I have a usable bag!
Oh and yes, I had taken it to a local shop and their machine couldn't remove it, and they confirmed it looked like and ink one - in case anyone else has the same problem.
But thank you all for empowering me!

I've used a dental drill to remove one before 😂 I'm in the industry though. Worked very well. Maybe visit the local dentist ha ha!

Yes I meant to add make sure it's not an ink filled one first though!

Update 2 ...
Just received the replacement (express delivery ha ha! Courier took it to the wrong house yesterday ...). Yup - there's a tag on it.
Its not supposed to be is it?
