How do you look effortlessly beautiful by the pool?

I'm going on a 'naice' holiday with boyfriend.
I always look like shit! Sweaty, straggly hair, some ill fitting throw over thing.

Please help! I want to look lovely.
What can I do with my hair? Even in a ponytail it's awful, it's thin & shoulder length
I've purchased 2 lovely bikinis so just gotta get the rest to work

Nape of the neck bun, some kind of shiny/slick hair product according to what your hair likes, classic wayfarers or cats eye sunglasses, wedge sandals and open front kaftan in a bold print. I always wish I could do a really good hat too but I never quite crack the hat thing.

I guess it depends on what kind of "tribe" your lovely is! I would have said flat leather sandals, good sunglasses, and a plain linen/ cotton type cover up. Hat a very good idea, with a sun protection cream on hair so it looks deliberately not done.

Fedora hat and wavy hair.
Sun cream so you're not lobster coloured.

If you're exaggerating how much of a 'mare your hair is, salt spray could do wonders Smile

H&M have inexpensive kaftans. As you have your swimwear already, bring it to the store and hold it up to see what matches.

I only ocassionally buy the matching beachwear when I buy swimwear as it is usually ££. I got this last month though and feel quite 'put together' in it. Maybe the swimwear you bought has matching beachwear available?

Get in the pool and swim - or the sea, cleaner. Dry off in the shade. I'm sure he doesn't want a sun Lounger cover as a holiday companion.

Heels and kaftan do seem very elderly.

Ok.. The main thing for me is a hat to cover up greasy/wet hair - I love my pajama but it's got to be a real Panama and not a cheap version from a fashion shop. I wear this Tumi one and have done for years..

Second up - fabulous (and big if you suit them) sunglasses.. Hides a sweaty face and looks so glam.. All you'll need to wear on your face is sunscreen and a slick of lipgloss Grin

Thirdly, clothes-wise, I tend to stick to neutrals with the odd it if colour.. Love black and white together but don't mind other colours just not a fan of fluoro!!

Fourthly, make sure your clothes aren't too tight, keep lines simple, nothing too fussy, and try to wear natural fibers like cotton... Something like an oversized white poplin shirt is a fab cover up!

Lastly, don't get burned! Err on the side of caution and use a high factor..

Those are my tips.. And I look a million times better on holiday these days than I did when I was younger.. Grin

I always look the same as you op but am going away with the girls for the first time since I was a teen so need to make more effort! Problem is I only have hand luggage allowance so can't take loads of products but watching with interest...

Those saying a hat will a straw cowboy hat do?

He won't care and nor will you after day 1! Slick your hair back in a bun and fabulous sunglasses plus a cover up for lunch (those H&M ones perfect) plus a decent beach bag and you're sorted.

Perdicured feet!! Nice smooth feet with polished nails (i always match mani/pedi) and sunglasses goes a long way I think. I put my hair up with a clip in a twisty thing so it doesnt matter if it is thin/oily/wet.
I prefer a no make up look on the beach but tint eyebrows/eye lashes (and thread them) to make me feel more groomed.

Have fun!

Recently I had a stop-over in Abu Dhabi, so went to a beach club. Some of the most stylish women used light button-up shirt dresses, like chambray type, as beach cover ups, some wore them part open with a loose hip belt.
My plain kaftan was good, but not as great as that. I take a Turkish towel as a wrap too, more useful than a sarong.
Clip up hair if you don't fancy a hat.
Happy's tips are good. Paint your toes a bright colour.
YSL Babydoll mascara (tubing, does well in sweat and humidity).
But above all, being somewhere you want to be with someone you want to be with will make you glow with happiness, you can't buy that!

I come from the Med and kaftan - especially the polyester ones - scream tourist to me. Cool and effortless they are not.

A cotton dress is perfect, leather sandals, hair up in a bun, no makeup or silly topical jewellery (shells and that type of thing). And yes to making sure you don't burn.

Vix bikinis, expensive but ridiculously flattering for a bikini

Fab thanks for all this.
I think scraped back with some product and a bun would be great

I look awful in hats but do have a straw trilby which looks good

I have one of those H&M kaftans but it just looks cheap & awful. At 40 I think cheap wear that looks great on 20-30 year olds just looks cheap on me
I love the idea of an oversized shirt in white or chambray Smile
Any links to those?

This shirt is fab but maybe a bit short, you could pair with a nice pair of cotton shorts? Or there are longer versions around.. This poplin tunic is lovely too.. White will probably stain a bit yellow from suntan lotion but you can bleach when you get home (as long as it's brilliant white and not off-white]]

The older I get the less I can get away with cheap shit in the sun.

This year I have white linen shirts, a couple of cotton t shirt dresses from H&M and a cotton caftan from next I think.

Hair: brushed out after swimming, tied back

Eyes: tint lashes

Body: drink lots of water, I love an AI cold beer but it has to have a long water with it

Umbrella: lay in partial shade, stick out legs/head/ back but keep some of you in shade to stay cooler

Nails: neutral on finger, coral on toes

Jewellery: thin gold or silver hoops

Bag: big

Towel: change at least twice a day

Bikini: never white, make sure it fits

Shoes: flip flops/ flat tan sandals

spf: min 30
