Stupid jeans question

Dear MN

After the amazing response to the mascara thread I posted last week I need your help again.

After having my baby 4 months ago I've rocketed to 12st 5 and I have a proper gut on me.

My skinny jeans now look horrific on me and I'm scared of looking frumpy but don't know where to turn now jeans-wise.

Background: I was a teenage goth and never quite grew out of my love of skinny black jeans, leather jacket and band t-shirts. I'm too fat and old to get away with the above now.

So....what cut of jeans would you recommend that's flattering but won't make me look frumpy dumpy?

I am currently trying to lose weight after having my DD in December I ballooned massively!! Have lost 2.5 stone with 2.5 to go so I know exactly how your feeling! I was wearing boot cut jeans I bought in the January sale until last week when I got into an old pair of skinnys, they are lift and shape ones from next and I swear they really do make me feel amazing! They are about £45 but so worth it maybe give those a try?

Please try M&S jeggings. They're a life saver with any kind of postnatal tum as they're a higher waist but comfy and skinny and soft and easy to wear. And come in loads of colours. Can't rave about them enough to

You might have tried this, but I find that slightly cropped skinny jeans help balance my figure out when I've put on some weight. So, either rolling them up a little or hacking off the bottom few inches. An inch or two above ankle bone suits me. Frayed edges are quite on trend atm if you care about that sort of thing.

The other style that I'm finding flattering (I'm 6 moths pregnant so bigger than usual obv!) are girlfriend style jeans. They tend to be a slightly shaped-yet-relaxed fit. I've got Topshop Lucas maternity style but I've noticed this cut popping up in more shops. Again, I find them more flattering slightly rolled up so there's a bit on ankle between the jeans and my shoes. NO idea why I'm so obsessed with ankles.

Gap Girlfriend jeans would be worth a try.

I've never heard of girlfriend jeans but will definitely give them a try on!

Re: cropping, I've got hobbit legs - about 5 foot of my 5'6" frame is torso. So cropping makes me look like a Shetland pony that's cantered through Topshop Wink

Quick aside; Claire28 please tell me how you lost 2.5 stone since December? I'm in awe plus that's exactly how much I need to lose

Also: tucking tops into waistband (to give a waist effect) - yay or nay?

Depends on length of torso and how much of said torso is filled with nork.

Have just clocked in at 38E.

However I always wear v-necks to avoid Queen Victoria bust effect

If your torso is short then you risk looking as though your norks are growing out of your stomach.
Having said that, I think shirt-tucking is only really catastrophic in those circumstances with a skirt. Something billowy tucked into trousers can be very effective.

Keep the jeans and get a big baggy v neck jumper

I actually lost of from 4 April Grin I am calorie counting with my fitness pal, really cut down on portion size and treats! I am having carbs but good ones and limiting them, I have rice cakes and peanut butter on crackers for a treat and dark chocolate, I really don't feel like I'm on a diet just eating better and having more control
Of it. Didn't drink very much at all in this time either! Sad I did Davina's 5 week fit DVD almost every day when DD was having her nap and walked as much as the weather would allow! I went on holiday last week so I was so determined, now I'm back I starters the 30 day shred because I really want the next 2 stone off by the end of the summer

Can relate - did not get pregnant, but going back to uni piled on the pounds!

Need to lose 2.5 stones too. And also have never and probably will never outgrow my love for band shirts, leather jackets (I can't wear my leather jackets because of the extra pounds - won't fit), skinny jeans (it's a love that developed late but strong; but I do love boyfriend jeans too), and Dr Martens.
