Philips Lumea laser hair removal.... recommended?

Hi all,

I am about to bite the bullet and buy one of these... I invested a bit of cash a few years ago into laser hair removal in a salon (Soprano method), which was great, but after a few years and no top ups (local salon closed down), I need to more or less start again in certain areas. So I thought I might as well buy a unit....

Has anyone bought one? Which one have they bought, and have they had good results? All experiences, good and bad, gratefully received!

I bought one earlier this week - Lumea Prestige; it is the most expensive one as it had attachments. I have used it once and found it fairly easy to use but don't know if it has worked yet!

I bought one a few months ago - it's a handheld one that sort of looks like a gun. I don't think it's the new lumea but can't remember the numbers. It was £200 on Amazon because the box was damaged when others were around £300.

Anyway - it works, amazingly! I used to have boots smooth skin back when you had to use gel and it was messy and awful and didn't work, so that's what I compare it to. I've used it on my underarms and have pretty much no hair left there, same on bikini line and now I'm doing my legs. I can't work out if it's working on my face or not!

It's one of my favourite ever purchases.

It does take a few sessions before it works on some areas. My underarms only took around two but bikini line probably around 8.

I bought the Precision Plus model (cordless) just over a year and a half ago now. First priority for me was my legs, it took some weeks of use to really see much effect but these days I'm hair free and zap them maybe once every couple of months to make sure they stay that way. Bikini line was much faster - took two goes and maintainance the same as my legs now. The only place it hasn't altogether worked is underarms where there's a thin strip of hair that just won't die. I think it may be too pale for it to work properly which is irritating.

I'm only using it on my legs at the minute. I'm dark haired and pale skin so it should work.

It didn't work for me - was quite gutted as according to the instructions my skin tone and hair should make it most effective. To be fair most people I know have had success with theirs. Very annoying!!

Mine is working but not as quickly as hoped...been 10 weeks and I have definite bald patches but I couldn't not shave my legs if wearing a skirt. Previously tho I would have to shave daily in the summer but only every few days now.

I love mine. My underarm hair and bikini line are gone, as are a few stubborn chin hairs, hooray. I'm slowly working on my legs.

I've had mine for a couple of months now. Bikini line was first to get results. Legs are getting there. I can still see ends of hair under skin but can't feel them. I asked about this on another thread and was told these will go over time.
I used to feel stubble even after a close shave and now feels smooth.
I couldn't epilate or wax due to issues with ingrowing hairs especially on the backs of thighs. These now feel lovely and soft.

Haven't had much luck with the face attachment though. Think it's because hair is finer/lighter.

My only annoyance is that it wasn't available 20 bloody years ago when I was a shy, hairy teenager!

I love mine. Takes a while to get results but it is def working. After having pcos and an unreasonable amount of hair all my life, its brilliant that it has been reduced by a 75%! Would have been life changing had it been around 20 years ago.

Thank you all, I think I will have to invest! Amazon seem to have a lot of them discounted... are there any advantages to the models that have additional attachments for different parts of the body do you think?

orangina largely depends on how sensitive skinned you are I think. Mine has attachments but I often don't bother with them. I got mine because it had more flashes than other models so will last longer - I would actually have prefered a wired model but got the best deal overall on the cordless so that's what I went with. If you want to use it on your face then probably best to get one that specifically says it can be used facially however.

When I did the laser hair removal at the salon, it didn't bother me (I did legs and bikini area, was just revving up to doing armpits when the salon closed....), so I guess I'm not too sensitive skinned. I am fairly pale and hair fairly dark (yay... ), so it worked quite well.

I think I need to get my order in asap so that I can be hair free (ish) for my August holiday in the (guaranteed, non-British) sunshine.....

Mine is a wired model, with attachments for face/bikini/rest of body. My underarms have been the most noticeable, after 7/8 sessions of using it fortnightly. The rest will take a bit more work, but I think it will get there. I have a LOT of dark hair & pale skin, so ideal for it.

I have to say that it's worth it to me, just to not have to shave in the shower every.single.day. I have noticed a difference with that, and usually just a very light quick shave when needed.

Btw, do people use those safety googles when using it? Just noticed Amazon recommend buying the googles when buying a Lumea.

WTFIMC, I was going to buy one of the more expensive ones that looks a bit like a hairdryer..... I think it might be more powerful than yours (and I need all the help I can get....)
