best red lipstick for a gift

Hi. I need to buy a present for a teacher I am working with. (I'm a student teacher and doing my placement in her class). She is a red lipstick wearer and I overheard her talking to someone saying she loves red lippy . Is there a new suits all gorgeous red lipstick anyone recommends?
I was thinking Mac ruby woo. However she may have that if she has a collection. That's probably at the top of my price range. Although would spend a bit more for a definite winner. She has short blonde hair (dyed I think) and sports the glam French look. Lots of navy and white or black with lovely neck scarves.
I suppose other option could be a neck scarf but I wouldn't know where to start.

Mac Russian Red? More blue-toned than Ruby Woo but less incredibly drying?

Chanel rouge allure is a wonderful product, suits everyone in my experience, and the packaging is so beautiful! Fairly ££ but if she is a lipstick lady she will love it. I have bought it for so many friends and acquaintances and it always goes down well. It's a classic!

Dior addict rock n roll . I don't buy Mac so don't know the prices but it's about £24, it's a wonderful sheer red which matches everything and looks good on everyone and it comes in a lovely heavy case with a satisfying magnet closure.

How about a Charlotte Tilbury one. They're a bit newer so she might not have one yet. JL had an offer on recently. Don't know if still on.

Seconding Russian Red - best red lipstick. But if she has a few she may already have it
Or Charlotte Tilbury - red carpet red beautiful packaging and a bit more unusual would make a beautiful gift.

Mac Dangerous is lovely, I'm wearing it now.

Chickyduck just had a quick look and it seems there are various shades of Rouge Allure - which one is it that you say suits everyone? I've tried lots of shades of red and none of them seem to suit me.

(sorry for thread hijack OP)

If you don't mind spending a bit more for something special then how about Besame in Cherry Red. It comes in a gorgeous gold case inside a red velvet pouch and is very long wearing. Downside, it's increasingly hard to source in the UK; Upside, she's extremely unlikely to have it already. There are a couple on eBay at the moment, one shipping from London or somewhat cheaper shipping from the US if you have time.

Hmm, first link doesn't work and further attemps throw up the same problem so better to just google Besame Cherry Red and it'll get you there.

It was fab. Nice and light but you can keep layering it on. Stays for ages.
I want to call the colour'Medieval' but that may be the range BRB

I agree Medieval is a great universal red. Very different to the Mac reds that have been mentioned though. Less likely she has it, though. You can get it on space NK

It is called Medieval. I bet any in the range would be great.

That lipstick queen one looks gorgeous. I'm away to look at the Charlotte tilbury one. We live in the sticks so shopping limited so good chance she hasn't got these

Another vote for Chanel rouge allure. I have it in passion which is pretty classic. I agree the packaging is gorgeous, plus it's a lovely texture and lasts well.

I'm quite pale (usually the second from palest foundation shade), blue eyes and light brown/dark blond hair.

Just wanted to add that I'm waiting for lipstick queen liptropolis to arrive. I hope it's good!

The maker is poppy king and a long home ago (1990s) in my home country (Australia) she was megacool and cultish. 45 year olde can't wait! I hope lipstick queen is as cool as poppy was (she also had a brief renaissance about 10 years ago in a boots- branded lipstick).

Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne is a beautiful red, and the packaging is amazing, if you can spend a bit more.

I just bought a Smashbox lippie, Infrared Matte. It is a fab colour and finish and lasts all day. Packaging not as glam as some though.

This sounds like a very thoughtful and generous gift , much nicer thanked usual end of term box of Ferrero Rocher or pen set!

I think because you don't don't know her very well it has to be a high end brand with glamourous packaging. For my personal use, or as a present to someone who I knew liked these brands, I would favour MAC/Bobbi Brown/KIKO etc, tried and tested quality at not too dear prices, but because the presentation is not special they don't say 'gift'.

For something like this I would go Dior/Guerlain/Chanel, something a bit ritzy. And tuck a gift receipt discreetly into the wrapping.
