So... my hair needs you. Desperately.

My hair is inherently crap. Fact.

To be fair to it, it's an ok colour. Blonde, with lighter and darker tones that work well together.

That's where the positivity ends.

It is thick. The front (from just behind my ears forwards) is straight. The top layers at the back are kind of wavy, and then underneath (if I hang upside down) it's pretty curly, in a loose curl way, rather than ringlets. Oh, and it's got some frizziness going on around the sides mainly.

Basically, I have at least three hair types on one average sized head :(

I tend to keep it long (2-3 inches below shoulders at least) and wear it in a messy bun every day, which works because it hides the madness, but I'm so desperate to be able to wear it down.

I have an active ten month old, so don't have the time to style it or straighten it really, though it does usually get a half decent go over with a hairdryer (otherwise it would stay wet for a year, it's so thick). Not opposed to putting in some products to help tame it, but am clueless as to what.

So... Help! I've got an appointment booked for tomorrow lunch. Any ideas what could look good with my hair type(s)?! I need to feel better about myself :(

Your hair sounds similar to mine, apart from the colour ... I also have curls underneath, a bit of frizz and random waves on top ( that stick out at right angles .. Hairdressers seem to always want to cut it it into a bloody "Rachel" no matter what I say . It drives me crazy . Sorry, I have no helpful advice but am also getting hair cut this week and am hoping for a messy bob , just below the jawline , will see if I can find some pics to share

I would get the hairdresser to thin it out at the back. My SIL has a huge thick frizzy mane and thinning has helped to start.

I would go for a long bob. Get some frizz serum and sea salt spray. Blow dry roots finger dry ends slightly then get the salt spray on it. It will dry into nice frizz free loose waves and you will have sexy beach hair. I think!

Interested and grateful for advice. Mine is quite similar and I have to say, sea salt spray doesn't seem to quite do the job. It goes into very messy waves which then fall out into half messy half straight flobbly disaster. Like you, minimal time to do anything with it.
Started my own thread and Brazilian blow dry was suggested but fainted slightly at the price!
Interested in what you do and grateful for any ideas. Suggestions of 'long bob', how long and how do you style it?

Ooh thanks! I'm encouraged, as I was thinking long bob, or even a little shorter. And similar styles to the pictures you shared, oncandy, though I think mine is slightly too thick for that short, so I may need an extra inch to help with it down a bit.

I'll definitely try out the frizz serum and salt spray. Ah, I'd take sexy beach hair over the stray dog hair that I'd be facing without the products!

Thinning out the back makes sense, as a lot of bulk is around my neck at present.

Bob, I love the description "flobbly disaster". That is exactly what I end up with! I can make my hair look great when looking in a mirror, then I turn my head for a moment and when u look back it's a flobbly disaster. How do some people have great hair all day?!

Perhaps the frizz free stuff plus salt spray is what I need. What do you recommend gingerbread? The hairdresser sold me a curl creme which created greasy flobbly disaster

I have wavy frizzy hair and I love kerastase anti-frizz spray. A few spritzes onto damp hair and combed through means I can blast it dry with a hairdryer and not even worry about it. I love it!

Have a look at the undercut style. I don't mean the 90s thing that kids these days have adopted but it's where they cut the hair at the back at an angle from underneath so it appears normal but takes a lot of bulk out. I was going to go for this but settled on a 'lob' instead

This is really helpful ! Isthat , what did you go for? I need to have mine long enough to tie back as it is so thick I over heat in the summer! I had a look at undercuts but they all look quite dramatic ... Does anyone have links to more subtle versions ?

I have the same hair and I find going with it now works best.
I dry the roots with a hair dryer and any brush, spray with a small amount of salt spray - they are all similar.
Put styling cream in the ends.
Then spray with hairspray. Hairspray removes all frizz and is a miracle product!

Mines very thick at the back and my hairdresser cut it with a razor to take out all the weight. Worked a treat!

My hair sounds very similar. The hairdresser cuts it wet and then basically hacks into it when it's dry with a razor and takes the weight out of it. I have a bob that's 'nape of neck' length. I can either blow dry it straight(ish) or twist it in sections when it's wet and it dries wavy.

It really is incredibly thick but this makes it manageable and dry and straight within half an hour (Parlux and Cloud 9s)

Hairspray. Any brand. It just lacquers away all the frizz. I need to run my fingers through fast and it is a little bit crunchy if I overdo it but it smooths everything.
A game changer. If you like a tousled look and don't mind a bit of stiffness in places.

I like what the hairdresser did (and she removed weight from the back), and she's blow dried it straighter than I ever manage, but it's given me hope! I'll try to put a picture of it up.

She recommended and used Moroccan oil, so I've bought some of that, and also bought a salt spray to try. Will spend the next few weeks experimenting! Will go and get hairspray to add to the mix ;)

andadietcoke, your hair looks similar to mine, but WAY better managed! Yours is what I'm kind of aspiring to if I can control the frizz.
