Haircolour disaster

Had highlights done one week ago. Really hate them. They are really bleached and too ashy for my skin tone so look washed out. Also there is quite a bit of root showing still as the highlights weren't done up to the roots. Are they able to actually do them upto the roots?

I go to a hairdressers house not a salon and as we get on well I feel really awkward about saying I'm unhappy with it.

What can be done to improve this? It looks awful.

Go to a salon you don't want another disaster. Your home hairdresser obviously hasn't the expertise to highlight or colour hair.

Ask for a warmer toner.
Ideally with highlights, there should be minimal root showing if it's done with foils.

That's what I thought. What's the point in leaving the roots showing!
Also there are some areas that are blonder than others. I could cry, I feel like a very blonde badger!!

Should I ask for more than one colour to be used? I'm not very good at explaining the effect I want.
Would it be damaging to go and have more colour done straight away to put it right?

A toner won't cause any damage...don't worry.

With foils, there will often be a tiny bit of root showing as it's really hard to get the foils right up to the scalp...but it shouldn't be noticeable at all!

What's your base (main colour before highlights) and was this the first time you've had them done?

My base colour is mousey brown but getting more & more greys at roots which I hate & want to cover.

I've had highlights loads of times but have started having a brown tint put on first to cover greys the highlights on top. I think this may have caused some of them to go a bit orangey so I booked to have these lighter ones done but they are too ash!!!
Oh what a mess I just don't know what to do with it. It's basically multicoloured!!
I just don't think this lady gets what I'm after although I don't really know myself!

I once went from dyed dark brown to light brown in the space of two weeks, by way of a full set of foils, then a week later I went back for a half-head of foils because I was impatient. Guess what? My hair survived just fine. When I mentioned at the salon that I had been there just the week before, there was much intake of breath and talk about how I should have waited longer between visits, but it was all ok, of course.

If you are not happy, go and get it seen to again. Try to find a photo of the look you are after as well, that will help a lot. If you are otherwise happy with your current hairdresser, pick up the phone and tell her "you know, this isn't what I was after, can we try again?". She won't be offended. If she is, look elsewhere. x

Really 'stripy' highlights are a look where I live, and not oneI wanted but ended up with. They looked dreadful - i looked like a tiger. Went to a different salon and had a toner put on and then had the highlights re-done a few weeks later and it was so much better. Specify that yuou really don't want the stripy look and they should be able to blend them more.

Incidentally I have now had to give up on highlights becuase they weren't blending the greys away and I had bloody grey highlights on top of the actual highlights which just seemed to be a waste of money.

Thinking of going to a salon today to get some advice. Does a toner go over the whole head? Would this be best or should I have some lowlights added. Slightly worried I'm going to end up even more multicoloured!
