Best facial stuff for teen with blackheads and whiteheads?

Not sure if she needs a facial wash or scrub, or some sort of blemish stick?

She's got quite a few now. Bought a blackhead extraction thingy hoping to recreate Dr Pimple Popper but they don't seem to come out so I'm now going with a prevention method rather than removal method.

For blackheads DC use Superdrug clay masks.
For day to day Clean and Clear face wash then Freederm Rapid for any emerging spots.

Neutrogena blackhead removal face wash, go easy if face is sensitive, don't use evey day if it is. Brilliant stuff!

The body shop tea tree facial wash is really good for teenage type skin, they lots of other facial stuff in the tea tree range too and not really that pricey for how long it lasts Grin

My DS uses the Boots Tea tree (and they have a Tea Tree + charcoal range too) it's often on 3 for 2.

The cleansing pads (slightly exfoliating and good for him to use in the morning)
A skin wash (he uses Australian Body Care at the moment, he's used Cetaphil which I buy in Costco ) and Boots Tea Tree Night gel
Double ended wand for spot treatment

If his face is ok but just red, he has La Roche Posay.
(He shaves too which aggrevates his skin)

agnus castus to try balance her hormones?

Thanks, that gives us a few things to try.

Will maybe try the pads first as she's not the best at spending time on her skin/cleansing so something quick especially for mornings will be good.

An acid toner at night like Vichy green bottle normaderm lotion got rid of all my blackheads
Wash first well though
Serozinc spray during the day also stops face looking too oily and prevents spots.
Good luck. Teenage time is stressful because of these little things.

There's also a tea tree face wash in Holland and Barrett. It might be Dr Organics. It's excellent - gentle but effective. I found taking a Vit C supplement was helpful too.

Don't get the related moisturiser though - it's horrible!

The serozinc spray looks good. Ive got some acid toner she can use as well. Bless her, she seems to have totally erupted over the last week. Maybe it's exam stress!

I've recently bought the neutrogena blackhead stuff, use sparingly as another poster said!!

The Agnus Castus is fab. It helps regulate cycles and sort out the hormone levels.

Gentle but thorough is the way to go:

Ensure she double cleanses if she wears make up eg remove make up with micelles water before cleansing. Not needed if she goes barefaced.

And nothing too harsh. The Avene cleanance K range is lovely, as is the Amie one.

I wouldn't use anything herbal tbh. I used black cohosh last week, good Lord it made me feel so sick!!

Report
Branleuse · 18/05/2016 16:59

sorry you had that side effect, but really? Youd never use anything herbal??

Noone even recommended black cohsh. Isnt that for menopause

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/05/2016 17:05

Yes really, it's a known side effect. I'm just advising that just because it's herbal doesn't mean it isn't strong stuff so go carefully especially with a teen.

Sali Hughes did a good column for teen skincare:

DD1-16 uses Simple Triple Action facial wash which she really likes.

I know this is an obvious question but is she actually washing her face twice a day with warm water and a clean flannel? Makes a huge difference to ds's skin, he visible changes colourGrin

12yo DS1's skin is beginning to get oily and zitty, but he has a strong aversion to a lot of things to do with keeping clean, so I've gone with a simple unscented facial wash gel from boots - it's £1.50 or something daft (I used to use it yeeeears back, when I was a skint PFY, myself). So far, he hasn't outright rejected it, which is a positive. It's not dried out his cheeks, either, which is good because he hates the feeling of creams (he has ASD)

Will have a look at the simple range if he needs something a little more. We had a look in body shop but he didn't like the look or smell of their tea tree stuff and, while he loves lush stuff, their facial products are a little bit complicated and messy for him.

I don't think she washes her face at all in the morning, she only gets up ten minutes before she leaves the house to catch the bus!

I echo Bumble Sali Hughes is great. But don't forget the GP... there is some amazing stuff on prescription. Don't let her go on in misery
