Is ombre hair dye a bit passé now?

Really? I do like having scruffy hair to be fair, I always feel like an old woman when it is neat and tidy - first thing I do when I get back from the hairdresser is put surf spray in and mess it up.

That's a neat style though so will be fine, mine is all beachy waves, lovely at 18 less do when you're the MD

I still like mine because the dark block colour on top is so much shinier and appears healthier than the highlights I had for years before. Mine is best when blunt cut below chin with loose ringlety twists. I don't think I'll ever go back to all over highlights. I do think it does depend on the skill with which balayage is done though.

I believe dianaTs picture is balayage, which I have. The stylist paints the colour on, which gives a subtle broken up effect rather than a line of brown then blonde. The skill is placing it in the most flattering places, so more to frame the face, less toward the back etc.
Mine looks v much like in that picture and it gets a lot of compliments, and is flattering to my face. So, whether it's passé or not, I like it!

Ive never heard of balayage - but thats the look I like! Like a more natural sun kissed look rather than the dipped ends look.

Yes, balayage has been great for me because I have 40% grey roots which I can now cover myself every 3 weeks or so using a warm brown £5 touch up kit from Superdrug. Leaving me about £60 per month better off and I have balayage (painted on colour) every 4-5 months with a cut. My hair has never received more compliments. Wish I'd known this 20 years ago Those root touch up kits are better these days too - around 15 mins and no mess.

I have never thought about using a touch up kit, I'm definitely going to do this.
