Out of date m&s credit voucher

I've come across a voucher worth quite a lot of money - I was 'saving it' for a rainy day - from marks and spencer. Its the type that is on a till roll.

It expired mid March (agghhh) I've phoned customer services and they said they will not renew/extend this - company policy etc and there is nothing they can/will do.

Has anyone any ideas if there is anything I could do to try and get this voucher extended? Has this happened to anyone else who had a happy outcome or is it just lost miney. Do you think writing to head office would make a difference?

It's worth a try , if you don't you've lost it anyway.

Local branch will adhere to the 'rules' more, try the Head Office . Good Luck.

I guess it's worth a try ... but I am so annoyed with myself!! It could have gone on food for a couple of weeks let alone new clothes!! Many thanks for your reply though, it's appreciated when I'm so annoyed with myself.

I think it's partly because you get a till receipt rather than a gift card, it makes you less aware of it in your purse but partly just that I didn't remember the date.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I could do with some advice on how best to word a begging e mail. I didn't go into my local shop but phoned customer service as soon as I realised and it was them who said there was nothing at all that could be done.

I feel I have to at least try but some help on whst to say/how to approach it would be so appreciated. What would everyone do if you were in this situation?

I would write a nice friendly message on their Facebook page or tweet them. More chance of them being helpful if it's public imo.

Put a thread in Chat for high traffic, if anyone works for M&S and can they help you word it?

Appeal to their (usually) high standards of Customer Care.

Was it a refund/credit note type of voucher?

Many thanks for your replies. Yes it was a credit voucher on a till roll. I've posted on chat as you kindly advised 70. Don't do social media so can't post on Facebook or Twitter but thanks for suggesting that blue. It was a complete no, there's absolutely nothing we can do from customer services earlier, am so annoyed with myself.

I've been kindly given an email address from a poster in the chat forum - chairman&marksandspencer.com - so I'll try to compose an email to them and see what response I get. Will post and say incase someone else in in this situation

I would try chairman office route . I had one of those vouchers in my purse for a long time and when I went to use it the barcode had faded/rubbed away a bit where it had been folded and snotty assistant said I can't scan that now almost with relish - I went well the number underneath is and it worked so I had my £50 credit but it was close . I wish the credit voucher came on a card so you didn't have these problems. Good Luck

I'm convinced Marks make these credit notes as receipt like as possible in the hope that lots of customers would do as you have done. Sadly, I don't think they have high customer standards anymore but you have nothing to lose by appealing to their nicer sider....I just don't think they have one.

Good luck with M&S. I had Credit Note which was 3 days out of date when I asked the store to honour it - they said no as they would be out of pocket! That does not make sense as they have had my £25 for a year. Yes, I guess I have had one year to use it, but like previous answers it was tucked away in my purse and I thought it was a receipt. For such a big company their policy is very poor. Asda always put there's on a gift card and there is no expiry date. Well done Asda.

M&S are notoriously stingy when these expire. They tend to reply with an explanation that their accounting processes only allow the vouchers to be valid for X amount of time and they are unable to extend the time or accept expired vouchers. I think in reality, this is probably a good money spinner for them.

It's definitely worth emailing and seeing if you can recoup anything but I'd fire something off and then try to forget it, and if you get a good response it'll be a bonus!

Could you get a new credit on the voucher? I had the same problem... nearly £80 in a credit that has expired :( I lost it and couldn’t find it...

I had the same experience with a considerable amount of money involved. Customer services fobbed me off and the Chief Executive did so also. So I issued a claim online for mis-selling as I was not warned at time of purchase. The claim was not defended and I've just had judgement against M & S for nearly £2000 !!!

Penny1933, how did you make the claim online. I am in the same situation. Thank you
