Curl secret help!

So I bought one. Have been looking to get one for some time now. I tried it and its great but was wondering, it says that you cant use any products. Just wondered if that means that you cant use a heat protector? Would also be nice if you could use some sort of mousse to fix the curl but it says not? Bit of a shame!!! Do you stick to this or use some product on your hair??

I have one, use heat protector before and usually set with hairspray or spritz with dry shampoo if I want some volume / texture.

Watch a few YouTube tutorials, pretty sure most use products.
