Can I wear a dress with tights and converse at 33?

I bought a cute dress from Mantaray yesterday and have a multitude of cute cardis it goes with. I have a pair of black converse and wondered if I could do the whole look at my age??

I wear ballet flats a lot but end up feeling a bit dowdy. Trying to make it a bit funkier but will I look daft? I generally live in skinny jeans and converse or boots and various tops and t shirts. I probably dress younger anyway but don't want to end up looking a twonk.

Anyone else do it?

Wear what you want. Do you like it? Does it fit? Does it cover your erogenous zones?

I do not like this notion that you're too old for a "look" . If you're 95 and arthritic maybe give the stilettos a miss but otherwise, please try and wear what you like.

Absolutely go for it, youre 33 fgs!

Can you link to the dress?

I live in converse but am getting a bit bored with jeans all the time, would like something a bit more interesting for the summer months.

At the risk of getting my head bitten off I think that's absolutely fine but it's not a young look anyway - my teen daughter wouldn't dream of pairing a dress with converse, it would be ankle boots. She would see converse as a bit frumpy with a dress. At 33 I think you are still really young so wear whatever you like!

Yes you can wear whatever you like.

Go for it, I'm 36 & would wear mine all the time if they hadn't broken, I just keep them in a box to look at :(

I don't like the look of tights with converse.

But that's nothing whatsoever to do with age.

Hell yes you can - I'm the same age and that's pretty much my daily wardrobe.

I tried to be all Boden catalogue but no matter what age I am that'll never be me. Hush dresses, converse, all saints leather jacket, coat if too cold, scarves, sometimes vans but I much prefer the feel of converse.

I like the look but i'd go with white canvas :)

That's ok then lol. I realise 33 isn't ancient but it's one of those things that I'm becoming a little, and I mean teeny, self conscious about. You know when you think you should be growing up but don't want to! I do generally wear what the heck I want in all fairness but very occasionally will stop and wonder "is this right?"

Will try and link to the dress. I love mantaray stuff as the patterns are so cute. I'm nearly 5 months preggers so it shows the bump which I like. Plus maternity tights = so comfortable!

I always replace converse when they die I just miss them too much! They're so easy to wear, though I have an obsession with trainers anyway.

age limited items are bunches and babygros. All else - no limits, determined by shape not age.

ballet flats are VERY frumpy though, they do look best on children or ballerinas. They seem to make everyone else waddle as badly as huge heels do. And they are nearly as bad for your feet.

I wouldn't say that was a young look at all so you'll be fine.

I do all the time and I'm 38, I have a great Converse collection.

I'd still do that at 53 if I didn't have weirdly shapeless chunky ankles and calves given the rest of me is slim

I have been know to wear trainers with tights [ my palladium tennis shoes so similar]. I am 48 and probably look eccentric. I love it :)
You are still young but never the less, even if you were older I would say, wear what you like.

Converse are pretty neutral at the moment I think.

In future I will not judge myself :)

I only bought ballet flats again recently. I've lived in a pair of patent brogues for work which I love but they're falling to bits sadly. I loved them. They are terrible for your feet I really need to buy proper shoes!

I wear ballet flats often, I don't think I waddle and I don't much care if people on MN think I waddle.

I agree with a previous poster, it's not a look I'd consider young really. It's v.popular amongst the mum's at our school, most of whom are 40+ I'm 44 and wear skirts that finish just below my bum (with 100 denier tights!) every day, I genuinely don't give a stuff if I should or not Grin

i wouldn't wear proper tights...I think converse are bare feet only

so either bare legs or footless tights and I am well older than 30 very very late 40s if you need to know but i do have exceptionally lovely ankles.

Converse are ugly, cold and painful but your age is immaterial.

leggings or socks wd look better than tights with converse.

What the others said...that's not a "young" look at all, so go for it if it's what you like.

I asked my 17dd the same question last week. She says it's not a fashionable look for young people anymore so it would be fine for me Hmm

Converse are pretty ageless really. I think cardigans are more frumpy than the rest of your outfit!

Showofhands: what? Covering errogenous zones? Do we all need to cover our ears then?! Barmy.
