In attempt to shake things up - my lo in 6mo - I haven't bought anything that you can't buy in a supermarket - I bought this. I tried it on. I really thought it looked good. Get home husband pulls a doubtful face. Shouldn't matter but now I'm doubting myself, just need to see what you think tbh. And help with what to put with it if you think it's ok! Ps sorry about jeans and shoe in pic! Obvs do things in a hurry!

Mm not sure about it sorry but that could well be the angle of the photo.. Looks a bit 'square' even with the belt.. Maybe it'd look better unbuttoned at the neck a bit?

Yes I would have buttons undone at the top and either lose the belt or have it hanging a little looser around the hips. I personally would keep legs bear so it would be more of a summer outfit I think. Wear with some nice sandals, I wouldn't put it with trainers.

The can you take photo again but undo the top 2 buttons at least?

Sorry but it makes you look shapeless. The material looks cheap.

Much nicer ones here. Go for actual denim for a better shape and fit

I think if you undid the top 3 buttons and put a cami underneath it that dress would be more flattering. The belt needs to be higher and wider too, I think.

Posted too soon! I meant to add that I like that length on you, op.

Doesn't suit your shape. Very boxy. It's not you it's the dress.

Boden have a lovely denim dress this year.

I don't like that one on you, sorry!

I like the dress, and with the changes pps have said it'll look lovely. I too think undo a few buttons with a cami underneath, and sit the belt slightly hugh so it skims off you. Personally id wear it with some lovely sandals that match that belt and a small handbag on a really long strap.

DamsenBerry · 20/03/2016 19:39

Slightly higher*

I don't think denim dresses are flattering on anyone. Often the top is bunched up and the skirt part just hangs shapeless like a long shirt.

Ooh lots of suggestions! I like that, esp as I am chronic on actually styling anything!

I have a few different cami tops and different belts. Already undone the buttons, am not skinny and/or 19 I realise Grin

Thanks for your honesty too! It is a bit boxy and I am a little broad! So will def check out the other suggestions, do like a bit of Boden.

Thank you for helping!

Hmmm it is a bit prisoner cell block h
Looks like you have a nice figure though so I think you need to get your dh to have the kids and hit the high street and have a nice day out and try things on

Great idea! Will definitely make a date for that. I tend to do a lot of buying without trying, I can get a bit zoned out in shops! I need to go prepared - dons research hat. If I have a list then I will be able to stay on target. :) I need a jacket too. So will keep on the mission to improve. Thanks again :)

OP, I think I'm a similar shape to you. This probably sounds mad but have you tried removing the belt? I'm always adding belts to things to create an hourglass shape but my style guru (my sister) always says I look better without it.

Yes have a big trying on session. I think you could find a flattering casual dress in a completely different shape.

You have lovely legs, OP. That dress does absolutely nothing for you.

Try this one instead.

Best dress I have bought in years.

"and I am a little broad! "

You don't look it in the picture. The belt doesn't do you any favours though. It looks like it is sitting on your hips and makes you look like you have no waist.

Oh please don't do the 'undone over a cami' - dull as!!

I think it looks great with the buttons done up, at most might undo one. Great dress - I have one very similar that I live in with tights...lucky for you you have lovely legs so can totally get away without!

You might put try belt a couple of inches higher possibly, more of waist height rather than on hips (although it's little hard to tell due to angle of photo)

P.s I have a 5mo DS so understand the wardrobe malaise...hooray for being brave Smile

"I think it looks great with the buttons done up"

I prefer the undone buttons over a cami look. I think buttons done up to the top suit very few people..

I also like the buttons done up and agree belt a couple of inches higher.

You are what you are and whilst I concede there is some merit in dressing for your shape it is far better to embrace the styles you enjoy than where something less you but more "flattering".

I think this style from Next with a straight hemline, higher waistline and smaller pockets would suit your shape better. The one you have looks like you forgot your trousers. Sorry to be blunt.
