New Look denim dress wardrobe staple or potential Mistake?!

Hi! I saw this in New Look and was tempted. Way outside my comfort zone as live in my skinny jeans and look a bit scruffy. Am size 10/12 petite so it would be at least knee length on me. I kind of thought it could be dressed down with tights and boots and would be quite versatile. But I am in my 40's! Honest opinions!!

No you might be right, but then again in my very limited reading of magazines have read that denim dresses are very in so thought I could get away with it maybe?!

I love it, very wearable.

I like it and like you say it is versatile. I wouldn't call it a wardrobe staple because New Look clothes don't last very long. They're not made very well. Seams, buttons etc usually fall apart after a while!
Having said that, I would buy it.
You can put a long sleeve t shirt underneath, boots and tights. I'd change the belt to a brown or tan leather one.
You can also wear it open as a light jacket over another top or with a white vest underneath and some sandals and bare legs when it warms up.

It's nice. I've seen slightly better made versions in GAP if you could spend a little more. The New Look ones I saw in store were very crumpled in comparison but maybe just needed a good iron. Definitely
go and look. I think they are really handy.

Go for it! It's lovely. I think it'd suit lots of different age ranges.

I'm 36 and I'd wear it If I was thin enough

Looks nice! Watch out for the button through thing as it gets down to the skirt bit, though - I've got one similar (not New Look) and it very quickly got to the point where the buttons wouldn't stay closed from crotch down because the buttonholes got misshapen with the repeated pulling as you walk, so if you're self-conscious you might end up only wanting to wear it with leggings. It's still one of my favourite things though

Mum bought it. Mum is in her 60's and wears it with tan boots tights. And a plethora of scarves.

I also have one but with slightly longer sleeves. It's great. Washes well. A soft and looks cool. Mine is worn with tan suedey ankle boots. And a chunky cardigan.

I was eyeing this up in new look today!

I think you could wear it at any age.

In my 40s too and I have a New Look denim pinafore - there were threads about these recently - so that looks fine to me! (Then again, I'm below average height so don't need to worry about things being super-short.)

I can't see why this would be associated with any particular age! I like it. Would be nice with a crew neck knit over the top too, quite preppy.

Really versatile, go for it!

I've got a very similar Gap one from a few years ago but I never wear it because the buttons at the bottom gape and make it less decent than I'm happy with, even at 5'4". So do try on very carefully - try sitting down and walking around.

It's lovely. I'm in my 50s and I'd wear it if I had a waist.

Belikethat · 16/03/2016 08:54

It's quite nice but looks a bit bunched up at the top and it would be too short for me.

Drinksforeveryone · 16/03/2016 09:01

I would wear it - if only I had smaller hips.

Button straining would be my greatest fear of that type of dress.
