HELP - wedding guest outfit needed

Runningupthathill82 · 15/03/2016 16:45

So I'm going to a very close friend's wedding in June and I want to look good. It will be the first weekend away for DH and I since our DD was born, too. A new outfit is required!

But I want something different. The normal "wedding guest dress" from Coast, John Lewis etc isn't what I'm after.

I'm thinking something like a full skirt and separate top, maybe even a jumpsuit. Shoes are needed too. I'm pale and usually go for pinks/reds/purples. Don't really suit blue or green, though am open to ideas.

I have around £150 max for whole outfit, including shoes. I'm 5ft 5ins, currently carrying baby weight still, but working hard to be a size 10 again by June. I have big boobs and short fat legs.

All help much appreciated!

What's your usual style? It's hard to get a feel for what sort of 'different' you're after from the OP, IYSWIM.

Usual "style" is a bit middle of the road I guess. I like my dark skinny cords, worn with biker boots and a silky T-shirt. Or slouchy thin layered knits with skinny jeans.
I also like a patterned tea dress with brogues, or toughened up with boots and a biker jacket.
I usually keep jewellery to a couple of simple silver pieces. Hair is shoulder-length and highlighted.

For work I have a bit of a uniform of cigarette pants, top and blazer. Or a structured dress.

My idea of fashion hell is leggings, tunics, ballet pumps, or any of those baggy prints from Boden/ Fatface/ Seasalt/Joules.

I hope that gives you more of an idea - and thank you!

I've been having a further think, and I like the crop top and midi skirt look, as in this link..
www.houseofchichi.com/photos-ways-to-rock-your-midi-skirt-in-a-classy-and-stylish-way/

But I can find nothing at all available to buy that looks anything like this. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places? Am very stuck!!

Check out Elsie's Attic.
Would love to try the tutu skirts.....think you might like them too.

Try a browse on LindyBop for the full skirts. Quite a lot are more knee-length than proper midi though.

Thanks both!
I like Elsie's Attic - spotted a nice flamingo skirt on there but am struggling to think what I could pair it with? Can't find any pink crop tops out there that would work...

Am I right in thinking LindyBop quality is a bit patchy too? I like my circle dress from there, but have heard mixed reports.
I don't want to look like I'm in vintage fancy dress either, IYSWIM.

Have you tried asos? I haven't looked recently but have got a couple of midi skirts from there before that are great. Zara also had a couple when I went in before Christmas. And I kind of don't want to say given your OP, but Coast sometimes have some good full midi skirts like some of the ones in your inspiration images. If you bought the top somewhere else, they could be styled so that it doesn't look like a 'coast' outfit.

I love the tulle midi skirt look like on here

This is obviously a budget option but if you like them poke and you have more to spend just google 'tulle midi skirts' and you'll find some gorgeous very 'full' skirts.

Quite a few on asos and house of Fraser websites

Don't wear a white, Ivory, cream or very pale pastel coloured tulle midi to a wedding - you will look like a bride wannabe Grin

I love that look, Scarlett...would definitely go for that if I could find the right one to buy!
Asos has been disappointing, unfortunately, aside from this one...
m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Tulle-Prom-Skirt-with-Multi-Layers/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=6238418&cid=2639&Rf989=6407&Rf981=3679&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=50&sort=-1&clr=Grey&totalstyles=44&gridsize=3&un_jtt_v_frompage=0
But what top/accessories could I team it with?

Am useless at this!

Very fair point, Faux. Especially as I used to date the groom...

Could you not wear the same outfit as model on asos? Think it looks really nice and fine for summer wedding

this dress from Ted Baker is another option - the cut outs are a nod to the crop top/skirt look but more sophisticated...over budget but gorgeous Grin

Ted Baker has a lot of midi skirts with crop tops that look gorgeous. On the pricey side though.

Alternatively that Missguided outfit looks really nice.

LOVE the Ted Baker dress but not sure I can stretch to the price.
I like the missguided look too - what's the quality like?

I think it's OK quality, my niece has a lot of stuff from there and it looks good on. I would imagine for that money there won't be much in the way of lining and finishing but with the right accessories etc it could look good - worth a try for that money though?

US department stores will ship here, and their occasion wear is generally a lot better. You've got time to try that. I got a dress for a friend's evening wedding at Nordstrom that was a great success. Not all that much cheaper once I had paid p&p and duty, but worth it to get something nice that fitted well (am overweight at the mo).

I found this outfit for sale at Nordstrom's, for example. Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's are good as well.

I'm not sure. Bit five-year-old-playing-dress-up?

I know it's not a full skirt but I really like this look from ASOS. It's in the sale for about £70 altogether.
