still struggling with foundation

what am i doing wrong? those teenage girls you see with absolutely flawlessly applied foundation that stays on all day. What are they doing that in not!!! Ive tried so many brands. im pale with quite dry skin. bit blotchy bit blackheady round my nose. no idea how you get rid of those buggers!!

I'm fb friends with my friends 16yo sister. Always looks flawless. I'm convinced photoshop makes the best foundation!

Those teenagers look plastic up close. They trowel the make up on.

I suspect that your problem might be skin care not foundation. I started following THIS about 6 months ago. It's made a huge difference to my skin.

In a restaurant last year there was a girl at the next table I'd guess around aged 21 - her skin was so flawless, albeit trowelled on that I was compelled to ask her which foundation she was using. MAC she said and I vowed to go there. But then the realisation dawned that I have twenty years on her and it wouldn't matter if unicorns farted photoshop onto my face, it was never going to look like that.

It seems very unfair. When we were that age our budgets ran to yellow crap from Superdrug.

When I want to get that "flawless" look I trowel it on thicker than feels appropriate - and just accept the fact that all my necklines will be covered in make-up by the time I get home.

Younger skin is just smoother and plumper generally so foundation will always look better regardless of their spots etc.

For us oldies it's skincare that counts so that foundation will apply nicely.

It's just a combination of youthful skin plus access to good products. We would've been just as flawless if we had had the Internet, YouTube and money. Teenage girls don't seem to go through that awkward, bad hair, terrible make up stage anymore. It's very unfair.

No Collection2000 foundation in either orange medium or light brown dark and a roller ball lipgloss for them.

^meant to add that that doesn't mean anyone older than 30 can't look just as gorgeous. Just we're unlikely to get that perfectly smooth airbrushed skin.

I think primers are a big key to a good foundation finish that stays put.

face atelier foundation. Coco beau do tester pots. If you get one that is too dark or too light you can adjust it. For me, I have a shade thats like my skin in a pot!!!! its fantastic. The secret is to not apply too much. Makes my skin look lovely :) and I am 48 I have sallow skin and use sand. I bought the ultra foundation pro. A small bottle that i bought just at the beginning of summer has just ran out.

I also use real techniques stippling brush in circular motions to apply it. [see video below] Dont put it on the brush, apply it in dots at the tops of your cheeks then use the brush.

Also, you dont need a primer with this foundation. You can lighten it by buying the bright white or the darkening colour.

i tried cocobeau it didnt work for me. nothing ever does! im only 37 i have no lines on face so im not that old!!

When i first tried it, I wasnt sure about it either. Seemed to settle into pores. I was putting too much on. If you want heavier coverage you can layer it on gradually on the areas you may need it. Applying it with the brush made a difference. Maybe if you still have sample pots, you could get a stippling brush. It may make a difference? You could even try if it makes a difference with the foundation you have :)

I got one of those clarisonic things second hand and it has dealt with most of my blackheads very firmly! Am 41. It's past time it really improved my skin though I had to cut back a bit as it was sensitising my cheeks. People actually commented on my youthful glow though >preens

I'm a late comer to such things myself. I'm a Liz Earle cleaner and moisturiser fan, then primer by no.7 and either mac or double wear foundation. It does work.

Real techniques do a version of a beauty blender that you can get in boots or superdrug it's like a tear drop shaped sponge.
I run mine under water then squeeze it out and the sponge swells slightly then use it to blend in my foundation.
To clean it I just use a gentle cleanser then I fill a bowl up with water put the sponge in and blast it in the microwave for 30 seconds ( watched a video on YouTube, apparantly it kills bacteria in the sponge ?!! )
