Help! I have no idea what jeans are supposed to look like now. I want them to NOT be low waisted or skinny -what should I be looking for that is still somewhat current??!

I always go for a boot cut darker type, the last two pairs were from Next.

I've seen women in their 70's with dark jeans on, they look fine.

Oh good lord what has being in one's forties got to do with it? I am going to be 39+1 very shortly and it didn't occur to me that I needed to reexamine my wardrobe.

Mind you, ignore me because I don't think I'm particularly "current" anyway. Skinny straight jeans for me.

I've just turned 50 and wear darker colour, boot cut, but I've never worn skinny jeans, I see what most other people look like in them Smile

I am 48 and wear all sorts of jeans. Bootcut, skinny, boyfriend, crop, wideleg you name it, i wear it!!! The only look i dont especially like is the ripped look. I dont mind a bit of ageing on my jeans but not gaping holes.

I am 48 and am currently in dark skinny jeans. Fresh on this morning, took me an hour before I got compost down one leg. Sigh.

Past 40 nobody else cares, so wear what the fuck you want.

I agree you can wear what you want but I really don't have the figure for low waists now and skinny are uncomfy.

Pixie which bf jeans did you get in the end? I remember you posting a little while back. I'm trying to move away from skinnies.

I got the next ones. I figured that at £26 you couldnt go far wrong. I bought a size 12 in the dark rinse. They look quite good. They need to be worn rolled up with my dr marten shoes or with my little canvas lace up trainers. They look pretty good for the price. May try the hush ones or even the white stuff ones at some point. Its hard to get them as overly baggy for me would not be a great look. The next ones are not too baggy but they could look a bit better on my bum tbh. They also do bag out a bit after wear. Their cigarette jeans are quite nice. I wear them rolled again in the same fashion. Am sporting them today!!! If you get the bf jeans from next, dont the the pale ones as they have rips [ unless you want that look]

I am also losing weight [ was a 14 and hopefully veering toward a 10] although its a slow process. Probably not the best to spend too much money on them either!

I'm 48 and wear skinnies (not too skin-tight, though) or boyfriends in the summer. I also don't like rips. Or bootcut.

Skinny jeans shouldn't be uncomfy, though! Invest in a well-cut pair (Levi Demi Curve, for example, or Gap Revolution Skinny) with a medium rise and a bit of strength/thickness to the fabric, which will hold in the muffin.

That's really helpful, thank you. Good to know that the Next one stretch out of shape. I'm currently in the Uniqlo ones which are good, but I'm struggling a bit with the not too baggy not too tight thing. It's a jump from skinnies isn't it.

52 and wear dark Boden skinnies.

Don't like all their stuff but the jeans work for me.

I'm 50 and wearing black skinny jeans atm. I live in skinny jeans. Today worn with Baukjen longline long sleeve jersey top and biker boots. I'm a size 10 but always cover my arse when wearing jeans.

I am 45 and I wear skinny, straight, boyfriend or cropped. Won't wear bootcut - ever again!

43 and also avoid boot cut like the plague. It took me a long time to wear skinnies but I like them with a long top to hide my tummy a bit.

I've got a few pairs of either slim boyfriend or girlfriend jeans which seem to be the same slightly looser cut but straightish and they look good.

Colour wise I do dark blue, pale blue, black and grey but def not any rips or too much distressing.

I'm 47 and currently wear the Next straight leg. Next and M&S do a higher waist if that's what you want. Best to shop around and try on different things - there's a pair of jeans for everyone (somewhere).

I must have missed the memo about forswearing jeans at 40! I'm 59 and wear almost nothing but jeans. Never ripped, but light and dark, boyfriend, skinny (not spray-on), straight, and slouchy, even leather. No plans to swap them for elastic waisted polyester, ever.

I am half a century and wear skinny jeans. The latest pair I have are high waisted black jeans from next and they are so comfortable compared to low rise which I have worn for years and don't do your belly any favours. I think they are skinny jeggings. Very flattering.

I used to feel like you when I turned 30. I was quite sensitive about not dressing like mutton and not having my hair too long. Now at 50 I don't care. I have long blonde hair past my shoulders and probably dress way too young on a night out but so what.

Also you probably care far more than other people do.

You can get comfy skinnies, the stretchy-ish kind.
And magic bum fixing ones too

Oh and high waisted are a million times more comfy, i have love handles of doom and high waisted ones are a lot more comfortable

That's it really, 50+ and you don't care what other people think - you do what you want to, a great benefit of getting older and having no more fucks to give

I really dislike bootcut and found that Gap girlfriend jeans are comfortable and forgiving. They come in a short leg length too which is great if you prefer them to scrape above the ankle. They also don't have to be rolled up like boyfriend jeans do.

47 and still in my skinnies, they look great, I like the River Island 'Molly' on me.
