New Jeans shape?

Higge · 06/02/2016 09:50

Joseph Caro Jeans

I know they are really expensive but I can't stop thinking about them. I love the waist, I really love the slouchy trouser thing.
I am in the process of slimming down, hopefully from a 12 to a 10, so I'm not buying them till that happens....I'm thinking I could wear these everyday....I could just about justify the price if they were an everyday casual piece. Grin
Has anyone tried them? Or is it just me that loves them?

Not seen them in real life but I like them too. So nice to see some new shapes at last!

Yes to spending more on something you're going to wear most days. I also think with that style you might need to pay to get the cut and the right weight of fabric. A cheaper version could be quite unflattering.

My only note of caution is that, if I'm buying a new shape, I normally start with a cheap and cheerful version so that, if I lose my nerve, I haven't wasted too much money. But other than that, I would go for it!

What are they?

I like them. They look as if they'd be easy to wear, authoritative without being uptight. So as a thing - yes.

Only question is whether they actually flatter your particular shape. (Though I have been known to buy clothes without asking myself that.)

I can't see how anybody under 5 foot ten or so could possibly pull those babies off.

Well I'm 5ft 9in so I might just make it.Grin

I love them, but I'm wondering if they would look as good in real life. Sometimes I get seduced if there is a really good model shot.

They are more trousers than jeans though.....

Lovely! Danger. I could be tempted to try those on.

I have trousers from Cos that are similar shape, I always get compliments when I wear them. I do find that I have to think carefully about the top and shoes I wear them with because they easily get into weird or Unflattering territory so they're not an everyday, throw-it-on type of thing. They are gorgeous though.

I'm hoping they'll work with a slim fitting merino jumper or fitted t shirt. I'm obsessing over them but I am not buying them till I have lost weight....I might make them my reward!

I love those OP - Go for it ! I haven't had Joseph trousers for years now but when I did they were so perfectly cut, flattering and washed beautifully ..

Oh, I wish I hadn't clicked on that link... they are really gorgeous (if very expensive). I bet they are very good quality, though. I am 5'7" and would definitely wear something similar. I love wide-legged trousers, but you do have to be careful of tops and shoes - the proportions are so different from skinnies.

They are lovely, agree would look good with a fitted jumper or shirt.

I normally wouldn't spend £££s on jeans - especially skinnies because I can get the style and fit I like in gap for £30 but I can't get these in Gap!

I feel denim is definitely changing. Have seen various takes on flowy high waisted shapes on Instagram, just saw a great pair from Sonia Rykiel on Léa Seydoux, such a fresh look. They remind me of Japanese designers in the 1980s. What a cool shape.

Speaking of new shapes (and expensive jeans) I totally fell for the hype and just ordered a pair of Levis wedgies. Excited and scared

Gah! I took a look and now I want to try them on, too. They're so elegant, and the raw denim (whatever that is) looks great. I'm just under 5'9, slowly diminishing from a wintry size 12 to my summer size 10, and I love to wear variations on this shape.

Time to dig around in the wardrobe. I have a couple of pairs of flowing wide leg trousers, one denim, one silk (part of a suit) both Nicole Farhi that might be paraded again. TBH, the jeans have never really been put aside, but I am wearing them lots. They have worn thin though (and were always two sizes too large -- last pair in the shop, and the tailor was reluctant to alter them). Have had them since the early 90s so although they were expensive, the cost per wear has been reasonable. This is a convoluted way of saying I may have to visit Joseph when I am in London!

I really like them but not the cost!

I too have dug several pairs of widelegs out of the cupboard, including some Annie Hall-ish Armanis, found in a second hand shop a few years ago - I was sure would come round again sooner or later.

I don't think they're any harder to style than skinnies - it's just a change of silhouette and about time too!

Love them. So so pleased mannish wide legs are back, I love that whole Katharine Hepburn/Annie Hall look. As long as the top half is fitted I think it's really flattering and pretty timeless.

mama I really fancy a pair of those Levis but can't work out the sizing. I usually buy a 12 in jeans and that seems to be 30/31 on their site which is far bigger than other brands. My waist is small (27") but I am hippy. What did you go for?

Report
MamaAwayOnBusiness · 06/02/2016 21:23

I read a few reviews saying that you should go for your usual size, it will feel tight but the jeans will stretch as they are raw denim. I ordered 28, which is my usual size for Lee jeans. I wear 10 in most other shops. I agree, 30/31 for a 27'' waist sounds too large. The reviews also said they are super tight at the waist. I'll update when they arrive. I have high hopes for them, they look amazing on some of the photos and not very flattering on others so wait and see.

They're lovely and gave just reminded me of some gap cotton trousers I have in a similar cut. Must get them out to try on when we finally get done dry weather (wide legs and rain do not go!)

Will look fiesta to your update mama. I have a few pairs of Topshop "mom" jeans and think they are a similar cut - they are super flattering.
