Babyliss Curl Secret on a long bob

ConesOfDunshire · 04/02/2016 11:15

Recently had my long hair chopped into a shoulder-length bob. Love it, and want now to find a way to wear it in soft waves, à la Amy Poehler / Lauren Laverne.

I have some John Lewis vouchers and am seriously considering a Babyliss Curl Secret. Are they worth it? I have ghd irons but have never got the knack of curling with them.

I have one - and although I love the effect it gives - it's a bit of a faff, and on more than one occasion, I've had to have some of my hair cut, because it's got caught in the roller bit. I can quite easily do the front part of my hair, but the back is super tricky...!

Sorry - don't think this will help you make a decision...!!

Eek - hair cutting sounds alarming.

Oh I just started using this curler and I LOVELOVELOVE it!!! It's now the one hair styler that I could not live without!
I find it really easy on my shortish bob and even on mums longer hair.
I couldn't recommend it enough!!
Good luck!

Babyliss pro perfect curl, is the one I have, which I'm guessing is the same. It's an amazing machine. It is very quick and easy, but I did get my hairdresser to show me how to use it properly.

I love mine and I find it really easy to use but I get ringlet type curls no matter what heat settings I select. I wish I could do soft waves though.

I had one but I just didn't get on with it, it gave me wonky waves! I found my curling wand much easier to use so I sold it to my sister in law!

I have a curl secret model and get a good eeffect on shoulder length bob, but find sectioning the hair and doing the back quite tricky. Has saved me going to the salon though when I've had special events, so I'm sure I've got my investment back.

OP here - sorry, thread dropped off my active convos.

I went for it, and I like it a lot. If you want waves, and you have already mastered the art with straighteners, then I wouldn't bother, but otherwise I would recommend!

Childless how on earth do you achieve these waves with it?

I have one and find it easy to use but inevitably end up with ringlets rather than waves. I can turn these into loose curls with lots of brushing but they still won't look anything like yours, which is exactly what I would like.

Please share your technique!

I can get quite good waves with my curling wand but I'm worried about how much heat it takes. Do you think the curl secret is less damaging?

Thanks magic! In all honesty it is but hit and miss as to ringlet into curl. I tend to do night before on lowest - think it's an 8 - then touch up in morning. The 8 definitely works better for waves as it's still able to drop from curl into wave.
I'm not sure if it's better or worse for ur hair than straighteners- I can do it with straighteners, just find it less fiddly with the curler machine - I use a loreal oil to help it defrizz and define too, after I've finished messing.
Good luck xx

@SorrelForbes Me too! But then I brush it all out and shush it up. Even better next day for me. I have past shoulder length, thick hair. LOVE these. The only thing that gives me any body/waves but I'd love a wide barreled tong if anyone can recommend one?

I love mine. You need to ruffle through with your fingers a bit once your hair has cooled to get a more wavy effect instead of ringlets. Or I sometimes brush through for a soft wave.

I know it’s an old thread, but would people recommend the curl secret or the pro version? Currently around £60 vs £80. Is the pro version heavier?
