Which flats are "now" and will remain current for a while? And also can be worn for business casual?

I am on a tight budget so have to plan my purchases pretty carefully to get maximum quality for the money I have. I am already thinking about spring/summer, therefore, specifically regarding flat shoes. I can afford to buy one pair and I need to be able to wear them in a fairly forgiving business casual environment. Spring summer temps will range from 15 C to 35 C over the course of the season.

What can you all tell me about which style(s) of flats will be in this summer AND will remain OK for the next couple of years (nothing that's already on the way out because I will be wearing these for at least a couple more years)? What are you thinking of buying?

My budget will probably be around 150 USD/100 GBP. Thank you.

I think it's a bit early to guess this summers latest shoe, although looking at Net a Porter, there are a lot of gucci-esque loafers on there - so loafers with a gold buckle. Also slip on mules. Then there are those ugly elasticated ballet pumps with the really high front, think the originals are from Celine, but I bet that style will make an appearance this summer.

I also think shoes won't be totally flat, but with a small block granny heel.

If you want to play it safe, just buy a really nice pair of loafers or ballet pumps from a decent shop like Russell and Bromley, they haven't changed their core styles for years and are unlikely to.

I wear sketchers go walk, black colour. Very comfortable and suitable for work all year round.

I agree with LouLou - go for something really classic, rather than trying to find something 'in'.

Personally though, I'd rather spend £50-60ish, and have another pair next year if needed!

Basic loafer I don't wear loafers, but these look pretty inoffensive!
