Hi I'm looking to get some hair straighteners for my daughter. I have never use them so I have not much idea. The prices seem to vary wildly and I'm not sure if the price directly reflects the quality of what you get and what the difference in the quality actually is. Could somebody please advise me on a few models it would be worth buying? The only advice i have read is that if the plates are too big then it is difficult to get right to the root of the hair so maybe narrower ones or actually better though it would take more time to straighten a whole head of hair?

There is a deal on these at Superdrug at the moment but these appear to be quite wide so not sure whether they're good or not: www.superdrug.com/TRESemm%C3%A9/TRESemm%C3%A9-Keratin-Smooth-Control-230-Straightener/p/256901#.VlgysvntlBc

I should add my daughter has quite fine here with a natural wave and even my friend's strighteners (think they were Remington?) which were quite cheap seem to be quite effective on it. I don't necessarily want to buy the cheapest one is going but don't need to buy the most expensive ones either if this is not necessary.

Look forward to your pearls of wisdom. Thanks

Hi, I use Babyliss ones and I have had them for years and they're still great. Would reccommend them as a brand, their products are good quality and not too expensive. :)

Oh also, you only need the big plate ones if you have very thick or very curly hair. If her hair is fine and not super quick, definitely go for the normal sized/thin plates.

U really can't beat the GHD ones. Feel unique and look beautiful websites both have offers on GHD at moment and the actual GHD site also has good offers on 😀

Lurking as my DD is looking for straighteners.
She;s been using my very tiny mini ones but her hair is collarbone length and thick/wavy.

I'm confused between the ceramic plates, tourmaline, size of plates...........well just everything.

Also, I;ve read not to buy ones with a "name" on them. So I'd rather Babybliss than A.N.Other Celebrity stylist.

Boots had a pretty good selection and she could pick them up to hold them (in very very little paws) to see how they felt.

We're going to look this week.

If you buy GHDs, make sure you don't buy them from a fake site. The GHD website has a list of genuine websites.

There's Remington's in the Black Friday at boots down from £79.99 to £29.99 , my friend just bought them and said they are ok. I don't know much about straighteners as my hair is as straight as a drink of water sadly.
