If you have average looks........

what did you find improved your appearance the most?

I'm getting older and since I'm not a true beauty I've always had to make an effort. False eyelashes give my face such a boost but they are pricey.........

I'm considering fillers in the cheek area although I know they are pricey too!

Any experiences/ideas welcome

Thanks ladies

I think a good haircut, well shaped eyebrows. Be as well turned out and in as good shape as possible.

I have a theory that you shouldn't have earrings prettier than your eyes, that you shouldn't 'upstage' any attractiveness you have with very exquisite jewellery etc

I think being as well nourished and healthy as possible is attractive.

These are only personal opinions but they're what make me feel better. I'm quite plain and 45.

I thought about this after seeing reading one of those mags of 'celebs without makeup'. I was surprised how many of them are average looking.

I think it down to good grooming;
Good hair cut and colour
Eyebrows
Make up - to give the appearance of good skin, emphasise best features
Clothes that fit well and look like they were made for the person wearing them. A nod to fashion.
Nails which are clean and tidy.

I had my eyebrows done for the first time earlier this year (I'm 51) and although nobody specifically noticed that they had been done, so many people commented on how well I was looking that I am determined to keep the shape going.
However I do think these days most people do have their eyebrows done, so it might not be the tip you are looking for?

My eyebrows are rubbish! They are quite fair and there isn't much to them.

That's my problem, my definition round my eye area is non existent, well unless I create it with make up etc.

Today I have nothing on my face and I look gross. So unfair!!

I think hair style and colour can have a huge impact. Look at how Hillary Clinton was transformed.

My tip is to get your clothes tailored to fit you exactly. It makes such a difference and needn't cost much. Every time I buy something new, it's the first thing I do.

So are HD brows the best to get done ?

I've never had them. I use brow zings

I've just got some contact lenses Define which naturally enhance your eyes - they really make a difference

I try to remember to smile, and make sure my best feature (hair) looks nice.

I've been doing yoga for about 6 months and have been having so many compliments recently - my posture is transformed, which is the only thing I can put it down to.

When i loom at others... smiling makes the most difference - and being groomed - tidy hair, ironed well fitting clothes etc

I second brows, altering clothes to fit, good easy care haircut. Being in good shape helps, as does working out your body shape then googling shapes and styles of clothes to wear - this is a lot quicker then going to the gym

Inside out style blog is vv helpful on last
point

To look 'finished' 1-2 accesories (jeweller, scarf) and pulling outfit together in a colour scheme
