DD's ginger hair

She's 9 with long, wavy, orange hair. We love it because when she's dashing around, it looks like a long flame behind her.

It's lank and flat at the moment though - combination of summer sun, chlorine and split ends. She needs a good cut but am wondering whether long layers would give it some oomph. Is she too young?

Also, any advice for caring for orange wavy hair would be appreciated !

No advice other than try using redhead shampoo and conditioner and to be openly envious as I finger my dyed ginger hair :)

A good cut and maybe some light conditioning treatments might just put some life back into it? Being wavy it might not lie well with layers.

Lucky girl having such hair though! My 18 year old DS has ginger hair, inherited from DH whose red hair actually turned dark brown in his mid teens. DS's hair shows no signs of changing though. He seems happy enough with it but I have always worried about him being bullied about it.

I would cut a good amount of the length first, to get rid of the damage, just to see what her hair does when the weight's taken off it - I think if it's wavy, chances are short and layers will --> bush (sounds a bit like my hair, although mine wasn't so orange, more light ginger)

Is your DD's hair quite fine, or not?

Mine is v curly which might not help but I always have layers cut in it

It's very fine, Thumb, with a very loose wave. It had loose curls when short but these are pulled out now that it's grown.

Can anyone recommend products? When I search, they're all products for dyed red hair.

Yes, that's what I thought when you said it had gone lank. In which case, cut it in stages and avoid too many layers otherwise => bush. I should know. :(

I have ginger, wavy hair myself (I want to say curly but if I'm honest it's not as curly as it used to be). It's also quite fine so I have to be careful not to brush it out straight or it looks very limp and unhealthy. I fluctuate between having a chin-length curly bob and growing it out to shoulder length or just below, but when it's long it definitely needs long layers, or the flatness sets in. I don't see why she shouldn't have layers at her age, although they'll probably need trimming slightly more often than someone with their hair all one length can get away with.

Thanks everyone. I think a treat at the hairdressers over half term is coming
Up.
