Leather trousers - the rules of wearing them?

I'm after common opinion. I've recently had delivered a couple of pairs of "leather" trousers for a upcoming event. Dh slapped my arse when i had them on but I'm not sure they are appropriate. I'm mid 30's and "overweight". I'm a pear shape so my bum / thighs are probably my worst feature. I was planning to wear them with a blouse for this kind of look. Am I an idiot for even contemplating wearing them? these are the trousers in question.

If your bim/ thighs are your worst feature then wear a longer top.
I fear you may look like a sausage squeezed into too tight casing.
Disclaimer... I ordered something similar and sent them back. I also thought they'd be hot and sweaty

I like the trews. Being blunt it does depend how overweight you are. I only wear skinny coated trews when I am thin. I think leather trews are the preserve of the thin.

I have some that I wear regularly, but I avoid them if I'm feeling bloated because there's a drastic difference in how they look on me when I'm feeling thin and when I've got a bit of a stomach.

I think if you don't like your bum and your husband slapped it whilst you were wearing them, it's probably accentuating it in a way that you wouldn't like. Can you ask him or anyone else for an honest opinion?

At the end of the day, it's going to be personal opinion, so I'd go with your gut feeling.

bum though bim is quite nice Smile
I'm six feet and size 14 and just felt I was pushing it a bit with them...I am sick of wearing plain black bottoms and thought I could give it a go.
No. And I am 55 too so that was something else to consider

Is your DH slapping your bum a good sign or a bad sign?!

I'd take it as a compliment and if he thought I looked good in them I'd wear them and rock the leather clad booty for all it's worth.

However, if he did this Confused instead I would send them back!

I think they need to be quite matt and a good quality fabric with some stretch.

I think if you have a shapely arse then you'll be fine - flat and saggy then I'd allow the shirt to cover it. Keep everything else subdued including make up.

I love leather leggings at any size and shape, but I suspect that unless your legs are excellent that a longer top might be better. I tend to wear mind with a front tucked long silk or cotton cream shirt for a similar look that skins over my saddlebags/upper thighs (don't mind my bum, but anything that highlights my upper thighs is baaaaad).

Grin at rock the leather clad booty for all it's worth.

Not how I'd put it, but I think you should! Maybe ask DH for an honest opinion rather than an arse-slap before finally deciding.

Rules of wearing them? Unless you're a six foot plus model, the rules are "don't"

I think you need to be snake-hipped to wear leather trousers. Or, rather, they look better on the snake of hip. Think Chrissie Hynde.

Just googled for an image of Chrissie Hynde and found this of her daughter! The spit

They are not the preserve of the willowy model-esque types. I was 1.5 stone overweight last winter, have short legs and am 6 inches shorter than you! I posted a photo on here to canvas opinions. Consensus was very positive and I kept them. If you feel comfortable then go for it. Keep everything else minimal - simple jewellery, make up and hair. I wore them with blouses for evening as per your photo and layered slouchy jumpers and tees for daytime. Footwear wise, I wore them with Converse, flat suede boots and heels (evenings only). Will be wearing them again this A/W.

hi op, i wear a pair of fake leather leggings with cotton leggings underneath and tunic tops. They are great for wet weather as they're waterproof and make me feel younger! I'm not skinny or tall and a lot older than you -so if you like them, go for it !

Ujj - did you get a lot of wear out of them? I'm a bit worried I'll only wear them a couple of times. I'm also a bit worried about getting really hot and sweaty in them. Dh's slap was deffo a good slap rather than a bad slap Blush

I have just googled "overweight girl in leather trousers to see if there is a picture of a person similar to me and I would say I probably look most like this

By "overweight" I mean my BMI is about 27 - 28

And yes, the blouse I was planning to wear is longer over the bottom area.

I think they will look good with a long blouse.

Thingy in the picture looks awful not flattering at all. Put them on and get someone to take a picture of you and then decide.

Sweetheart I got a lot of wear from mine. I wore them at least twice a week and I was never too hot in them...except for when I was trying the damn things on in an over-heated Zara store!

I agree with OnlyHere - get a friend to take a photo. That link does not look great tbh but most women have a touch of body dysmorphia or a tendency to have our attention drawn to our not-so-great-bits, so you may not actually look like that.

How sad that lovely, size 10 Kimberley comes up under an "overweight" search

I think they look fine on her but that's because her BMI isn't 27-28.

I would only wear them if they're thick fabric (so as not to squeeze cellulite though the material) and stretchy so they're not baggy in places

In the link that you've posted, they don't seem to fit the girl wearing them.

I'm 5'8, size 10 - 12 and have long, slim legs / thighs / hips. Heck, I even wear mine to work!
