how do you work out whether you're cool toned or warm toned?

Ok riddle me this:
Auburn / chestnut hair
Pale blue / green eyes
Yellow undertone to skin - but pale
Burn easily but can tan eventually
Blue and green veins on inside of wrist
Have rosacea so redness in face and flushing

Am 35 and really should have figured this out by now.

Want to buy a bright lipstick but don't know whether to buy one for a cool or warm toned person...

Any ideas?!?

Photo of your wrist please...

Impossible to be certain without proper analysis - my wrists give a very mixed result but lead one to think cool, but when analysed I am just the warm side of neutral. If you are more obviously warm or cool it might be more obvious though (although if you struggle to identify good lipsticks it may well be because you are closer to neutral).

Oh is it true that neutrals more often struggle to find the right lipsticks?

Will try to post a pic of wrists!

Do you find out your colouring from your wrists? Do tell me more.

I think most people are neutral and lean a little cool or warm. With respect to lipstick I think your level of contrast is the most important thing- the higher the contrast the brighter the lipstick needed.

Narrowing it down- what are your best and worst colours?

Most people or most white people?

Yellow undertone usually means warm tone. Do you look better in gold jewellery or silver?

ERm..........

Like I said most people- that means any skintone.

Weird.

We need a non face pic really, you look pinky here but like you say rosacea and the lighting. I have roseacea too but am warm/neutral-warm x

The wrist thing is -

Blue / purple veins = cool

Green = warm

In between = neutral

And skin colour in quite a few cases. Mine is obviously yellow, my mums is obviously pink.

I would say that I think you are a Spring which is warm toned. I have the Colour Me Beautiful book. Gold jewellery suits Spring's best. I'd do for lipsticks that are nude or more yellow based like a light coral or salmon pink. No dark reds with a purple undertone. I am a beauty therapist/ make up artist but I haven't done the Colour Me Beautiful course but the book gives the colour swatches & helps you determine skin tone & makeup/clothes colours.

I don't think there was anything intentionally goady or insulting about the comment 'most people or most white people'. I am half black myself and I was wondering the same thing! Smile
I'm watching with interest. I have no clue what I would be and it'd be good to know.

Ah... I thought it was as simple as either cool or warm... But sounds like there's shades of grey...

Thankyou for your help everyone... Maybe I just need to experiment. I work a pinky red today which I thought was ok... Until I blushed :-)

Good night ladies of mumsnet x

Legit question! I'm Eurasian. Google was my friend Wink

Yes, it is and I know that in the experience of my own genetics and that of my other family members and friends who share the same mix as me, not all half white half black skin tones turn out the same either. I'm one of the lightest in my family but my cousin and brothers are a fair few shades darker than me even though they are '50/50' like me Grin

Well, fact fans, statistically (from the perspective of number of clients House of Colour sees, so mainly American, British and Western/Southern European consultants, rather than actual science statistics), we see more cool tones than warm, but we don't break that down further by skin colour.

You can be pale and warm-toned - my best friend is very pale and never tans but is a Warm Spring (red hair, green-blue eyes too - wears Nars Siberia foundation). Ignore rosacea redness, it doesn't affect whether you're warm or cool toned.

Try a coral or orangey red? Maybe something sheer like Revlon lip butter in Candy Apple.

What kind of clothing colours do you prefer?

HOC experts, would less contrast in the face point towards Autumn or Spring, or does it depend?

See, from your picture, I'd put silver jewellery on you rather than gold. Which apparently makes you cool not warm!

Lots of more neutral types can do both silver and gold.

anxiety if you go by online/books etc, they would say that high contrast means Spring/winter and low contrast Autumn/summer. As someone who is a very high contrast Autumn and has had more than one dark blonde, neutral skin tone, mid brown eyed winter, I know it's not that simple. Again, it comes down to how nearly you fall into a season.

NEATLY. Not nearly.

Neutral probably makes more sense! I can wear either silver or gold but prefer silver as it goes better with my turquoise colours Wink

I Googled the subject and found lots of articles where they talk about colourings of various celebrities. Found one with the same hair/eyes and skintone and worked out I am cool summer.
