Dermatologist?

My skin isn't too bad but it's changing a lot at the moment and I don't know how to deal with it. I've had DC 1 and 2 close together, pregnancy and sleepless nights are taking there toll!
Would it be worth seeing a dermatologist to see which products would be best to use? I've been to counters in boots etc before but I guess your restricted to that particular brand. Also I don't want to spend loads trying a load of different products out.
Or will a dermatologist just laugh at me as I don't have a huge skin complaint? It just looks a bit dull and lifeless ??

Dermatologist are doctors. They don't offer beauty advice! Suggest you try a make up specialist/beautician.

My dermatologist gives me skincare advice on which products to use and my skin has never been better. That said, I was seeing her for botox and had previously seen her for roaccutane, so skincare advice was more of an add-on conversation, IYSWIM.

The clinic I go to has a nurse, who does some of the procedures and also gives advice on skincare routines. But I think unless you have an actual 'problem' or are considering a more high-tech procedure - chemical peel, fillers, botox - it's going to be a waste of your money and time.

There are some great brands out there, I use SkinCeuticals a lot. You'd probably be better off trying to get a consultation there.

Or somewhere like Destination Skin? (Branches all over UK) Might offer a middle ground between Boots counter kind of thing and all out dermatologist.

You can go and see one if you like, they are more likely to try and give you a laser treatment or similar though haha. Some dermatologists give high grade facials as well. My DH is a plastic surgeon and often has people coming in asking what they should do about minor skin issues/lifelessness, he doesn't mind, and normally tells them to go to a dermo/facialist. Nobody will laugh.

If you can afford it, then go for it.

My dermatologist gives me beauty advice (incl makeup recs) but like TheWatchers, I was seeing her for a medical problem initially (acne). They won't laugh at you, but I think it's more that seeing one privately can cost £££ and most people wouldn't pay that just for dull skin.

I guess it's a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but if you don't have time to do your own research (eg reading skincare threads on here) and have the money instead, it would definitely be helpful.

I have seen a consultant dermatologist privately recently and it was a cool £180 for a 30 minute consultation, not for cosmetic purposes.
