So I am looking for a very deep, very dark and matte lipstick - very similar to the one the model in this picture is wearing. Any recommendations?

NARS Deep Aubergine

MAC Dark Side

NYC Mahogany

Wet n Wild Cherry Bomb

To be honest I'd consider other finishes as well as matte as the combo of dark colour + matte finish can often go patchy easily and be unflattering

It has to be matte. I only like deep colours in a matte finish with my skin. I have plenty of other dark lipsticks with a matte finish but just can't find the perfect red. Will google those now thank you.

Argh the NYC would be perfect if it was matte. The others aren't dark enough. At the moment I am layering MAC Ruby Woo on top of MAC Sin and its giving the sort of colour I want but when I need to top it up its not perfect.

Found a promising one.

Melt Cosmetics 6Six6.

I've gone to checkout and it looks like they ship to the UK!

Try Topshop, great (Mac) quality lipsticks.
I have Curious in the Lip Ombré which I bought for the deep berry red (will probably never use the lilac), it's a great Matt lipstick that goes on like a stain so doesn't bleed or eat off. Plus it doesn't transfer to wine glasses.

They do a v.dark red in a traditional 'stick' as well

Thanks will try that

That lipstick is Mac Rocker, definitely (I have it and wore it today with a same colour dress to a do). It's matte but not drying either.

WhyDoesGastonBark Sun 04-Oct-15 06:51:28

Mac Rocker isn't that dark.

A google search is suggesting these four - not all matte but not too wet looking so I might get away with it. Can I find any of them though... No!

Lime Crime do a very matte range called Velvetines and I think there's one in that shade. www.limecrime.com/velvetines/

They are liquid lipsticks though and I am not a fan of those.

We had this last year and the collection 2000 were really good

WhyDoesGastonBark Sun 04-Oct-15 08:00:06

Can you find the thread? I can't search for some reason

BrendaandEddie Sun 04-Oct-15 08:31:40

Rereading I think maybe these were too much of a red. I was really surprised by the Estee Lauder new range of lip potion colours. Some of them were really dark dark plum/purple

SorrelForbes Sun 04-Oct-15 08:32:45

They are liquid but they dry almost immediately to a solid, matte finish. Definitely the most matte of any I've tried.

WhyDoesGastonBark Sun 04-Oct-15 08:38:40

But they don't last as well as a normal matte lipstick and crumble (in my experience anyway).

Will try EL too then

BrendaandEddie Sun 04-Oct-15 09:36:45

it might be worth looking at brands that cater for black women too

BrendaandEddie Sun 04-Oct-15 09:38:07

this is interesting

Try the revlon matte lip crayon in Standout -not incredibly dark but v nice shade and non-drying.

FunTransplant Sun 04-Oct-15 10:05:45

Try MAC Sin, I'm pretty sure it's a matte.
