Kids waterproof warm coats?

yazzy85 · 22/09/2015 14:48

Any recommendations for good warm and waterproof kids jackets? Need them for walking to school, 4 year old boy and 3 year old girl. We had boden waterproofs but recently got soaked all the way through in them and don't want to make the same mistake or winter coats!

Vikingkids do Didrikson and otherwise PoP is fab for waterproof winter gear.

Mine had the Polarn o Pyret for years - get it in red or green and it passes down too - lasts forever!

My children have Lands End Squall coats, and they are really good, completely waterproof, warm but not too bulky.
They have a little thread you can cut in the sleeves to make them a bit longer when they are about to grow out of them, so they last for ages - my DD wore the same coat for 3 winters, and now her sister is getting it for this year.

I personally think they are well worth the high price tag.

My sister swears by Trespass winter coats, but I haven't tried them myself.

Another vote for Didrikson (VikingKids website) or Spotty Otter are great too.

Also have the Landsend squall ones here. They're really good, waterproof and warm. We're going into our second year with them and they are almost like new.

Zip in fleeces can cause problems though;as they tend to get pulled inside out when taken on and off. Then dc struggle to sort them out.

Another landsend fan here.

If you wash a coat you should always re proof it.......

I got a kids 'Dover' jacket from regatta outlet last week. Fast delivery, warm, and (as verified today) waterproof as well. And for a tenner (for the burgundy one, other colours were I think £15)! Bargain.

DSs winter coat from george /Asda has always held up well in the weather and he's never got truly soaked through even on orienteering courses in yorkshire with grandad (gold standard for getting wet in our house)
This year he's got this one m.direct.asda.com/george/kids/coats-jackets/hooded-sports-jacket/G005055274,default,pd.html
Added bonus is it doesn't cost the earth

I've had POP kids bib and brace style waterproof trousers for the past 18 months; you just lengthen the straps and they're brilliant!!

I like the Hatley raincoats. Lined with stripey terry towel and lovely designs. Not too sweaty either (mine is a beast for it!!)

How does the sizing come up for the Lands Ends squall ones? They have a big age range, 4-7 ot 2-4 for a 4 year old boy?

My DD is 4, and she'll be wearing a Lands End Squall parka age 5-6 this winter. It's a bit on the long side for her, probably the size 4 years would fit perfectly, but the 5-6 will do OK. Her sister wore it age 5,6 and 7 and it was getting a little bit short at age 7, so I would say the age and sizes correspond pretty well.

(Having said that, it was bought 4 years ago, so they might have altered their sizing)
