Bored of being neutral

All I do make up wise is foundation and mascara and tbh I'm bored of it. I fade into the background and I want to make the most of what I've got whilst I am relatively young (under 40 but over 20!)

I have grey eyes which I think look cold and horrible but people tell me are striking, fair skin and thin pale lips, oh and I have very sensitive skin.

I usually wear maybeline foundation and mascara.

Where do I begin? What's an inexpensive way of trying different looks? Make up counters scare me because all the girls look bright orange plus due to poor health I can't get into town too often

Thanks

What about eyeliner? If I feel like I'm in a rut I might do flicky black liner or use a coloured pencil. The GOSH coloured pencils are great and you can order them on the superdrug website. Purple Stain would look great with grey eyes. There are loads of great tutorials on YouTube for application tips.

Overuse of "great" there!

I hadn't thought about purples. Wouldn't that look like a bruise though? Confused I'll have a look at some tutorials online. Thank you

I think it depends on the purple. Obviously don't go overboard! Grin If you're just lining your eyes with it it won't look like a bruise at all.

I have grey eyes and use bright teal or purple liquid flicky eyeliner. Boots no7 range.

Do you wear a lipstick? I bought the MAC "plumful" colour after a recommendation on here and it's a lovely dash of colour without being all Look At My Statement Lipstick. Or a Clinique chubby stick?

Could you get to an out of town Boots or M&S where it's easier to park?

Go on Pinterest to find step by step make up guides and ideas for eyeliner. You sound like you possibly have cool undertones in you skin. Would you be brave enough to try pink shades of lipstick? I am cool toned and find they suit me better that oranges and corals.

There's a red for everyone, I reckon. I think it was loreal that brought out 5 different reds inspired by actresses with all different colourings.

I think wearing foundation on its own without blusher or bronzer or something is a dangerous game. It evens out your complexion so much that you can end up looking unwell, especially if you're pale like you (and me!) I don't wear much makeup at all but I wear a light foundation (Bourjois Healthy Mix) with a glory priner underneath (Bourjois Happy Light) and either a swipe of cream blush blended, or a dusting of bronzery highlightery powder (Soap and Glory 'Glow All Out' is great for pale skin just to warm you up a little without turning you orange!) then a lippy that's not too scary is Revlon lip butter in 'pink truffle' - it's a lovely moist texture, almost like a balm, easy to wear and a colour that's just like lips but better.

Red lips looks amazing on pale skin. If you're cool toned then pick a blue toned red. Tons of suggestions on Pinterest.

A bright pink looks good too. Just avoid pale pinks or anything with any hint of frost in it and there'll be no Pat Butcher comparisons. Grin

Revlon do really good lipsticks at a good price if you want to try out a new colour without spending loads. Same with eyeshadows, you could experiment with those from high street brands to find which shades you like before spending more.

I'm cool pale and always wear blusher.

Just to add, I bought MAC plumful without seeing it in rl and it's a very deep but bright pink on my lips. I actually love it but tend to tone it down with blotting and a coating of lip balm for everyday.

Sorry, thought of something else. Blush

A lipgloss might be good to start off with if you're not used to lipstick. Go for a berry toned pink.

Definitely try a blusher and some lip colour.
