If you wax your legs

How do you avoid weeks and weeks of stubble afterwards? I wax/epilate rather than shave but the hair takes ages to grow back evenly so I can wax again, so I only have hairless legs for about one week in 6. Really hoping you S&B gurus can tell me what I'm doing wrong!

I wax and have this same issue. If I wasn't so lazy I'd epilate (hair doesn't have to be that long so you can do it more often). I basically wear long trousers 4/6 weeks. Except for summer it's fine.. I just hate shaving stubble so prefer to wait and wax. Although I'm considering getting a Lumea.

I used to read about these mythical 6 weeks hair free (I'm dark haired with a fair skin) my armpits will go a week at best.
But- it does grow back finer and patchier.

I wax my armpits and I did my legs before my holiday but it's a faff to legwax. Epilator is much quicker though I wouldn't fancy using on my armpits.

I was thinking about buying a "No-No" but the reviews aren't inspiring.

Lumea sounds like a good option (for DD as well) though DD has a rechargable LadyShave type razor which she says is good (can use wet/dry)

I wax every 4 weeks and epilate if I need smooth legs, after years of waxing I have little hair anyway. You can wax every 10days.

What's a lumea? I had a quick Google but it seemed a bit confused.

Glad it's not just me and that the 6 gloriously hair-free weeks are a bit of a myth. Overall the hair is definitely thinner and patchier from waxing though.

have been waxing for about 6 years without ever taking a razor to my legs. I never have proper stubble anymore. I sometimes wax to soon for events and end up with uneven hair growth if you know what I mean but get just enough off to make them acceptable to go bare.
It doesn't bother me though. I am lucky that I am blonde which probably makes a big difference but would never go back to shaving. My legs are always soft now. I think it's worth it in the long run.

Bodicea you're so lucky. I have thick dark hair so despite waxing for 15 years there's still tons of it and I can never get away with going bare-legged if there are still a few hairs growing back as it's really obvious.

I've started using wax strips every week. Despite 25 yrs of waxing it still grows back fast enough to whip off any new growth after a week or so. This is the first year I haven't been to a salon and just muddled through at home and it's the first year I've got brown legs because I've been able to wear shorts most of the 'summer' (i use that term loosely).

I'm hope to be able to afford a lumea at some point in the future though.

Hair comes through in different installments doesnt it? So if you wax too regularly then you're waxing just one set of hair growth rather than waiting for it all to come through and doing it all together. You have to try and get all your folicals working together. Although mine just seem to do what they want when they want... Hmm

I epilate my legs and armpits once a week/fortnight depending on how much I cam actually be arsed. Best thing I ever ever ever bought. Hands down. My shower times are much quicker. I'm loads more comfortable when hair is growing back as it isn't prickly. It's fab.

I epilate too...except got lazy and shaved a few times recently. Never again though - loads of ingrown hairs and also my legs stay softer and browner longer with the epilator. It's much gentler. Epilator all the way now!

The idea with waxing is that you need to get all the hair into the same growth cycle, so your first 2-3 waxes need to be about 4 or 5 weeks apart, and you have to just bear with it and grow the hair out in between.

Leg waxing seems to suit some people more than others, some people can get about 2 or 3 weeks completely hair free with minimal regrowth after that. I get 2 good weeks and then what comes through after that is so soft and fine that it's another week or so before it's really noticable, but I've been waxing my legs for years now and I have large patches where absolutely nothing comes through - same with my bikini area.

You definitely get a better result than shaving or using cream, but nobody gets 6 weeks, that's a myth. I get loads of clients booking in for a leg wax as a 'one off' treatment before their hols, thinking they won't need to take a razor away with them and I'm always honest with them about the results they can expect.

Try drinking spearmint tea. start drinking it a couple of days before your waxing appt. Drink either 2 cups a day 12 hours apart, or 3 cups a day 8 hours apart. If possible get a bag of loose leaves from a herbalist shop, otherwise the camomile & spearmint or triple mint teabags you can get from the supermarket are pretty much as good. I've gone from having hedgehog like regrow in under 4 days after waxing/epilating, to having very soft, fine, slow regrowth 4 weeks since I last epilated. I should probably do a touch up soon, but without the tea, i'd be full-blown Chewbacca's sister by now Smile

Be aware that with epilating, a lot of hairs can break off at the skin's surface. If they're in the resting stage of the growth cycle, that means you'll be left with loads of micro stubble & have to wait weeks/months for it to shed of its own accord. So go for waxing if you can. Deffo don't mix & match shaving and waxing... you'll never be smooth.

Although mixing shaving and waxing is good because shaving is a great exfoliator. So I've heard it recommended that you alternate before.
