What sort of everyday tops do you wear in the autumn/winter?

I've been reading the 40+ thread with interest, I think I need some wardrobe overhauling.

I'm in my early 40s and have a LOT of Boden type stripey/Breton tops which I wear with skinny jeans. I'm getting a bit bored and would like some smarter tops to feel a bit more groomed. I need some ideas please! I am 5'3", size 12 and top heavy with narrow hips and wider shoulders.

I don't normally wear shirts. Tucked in or out?

Out and open if worn over a vest top, I've just bought 2 plaid shirts one blue one red & I love them. If you are doing it up try to get a fitted one they're very flattering.

I always have problems with shirts gaping over my bust and not keen on Pepperberry. Think I would prefer smarter tops in any case over shirts.

Fitted merino jumpers? Add a necklace if you fancy. Gap and Uniqlo both do great ones.

Love that gingham one. I'm currently wearing a red plaid one, open over a cami. Have also embraced my love of white shirts recently, even though I've always felt they didn't suit me. Have been wearing this one absolutely loads. Worn out, not tucked in.

For going out, I have a black silk shirt which has had a lot of wear lately, either with black skinnies or pale wash blue ones.

When it's colder, I like black turtle necks to wear with skinnies - need a good bra though, as am norky! Or v neck cotton or cashmere jumpers.

Do you wear a cami under v neck jumpers remus?

Yep, or even a scoop neck t-shirt if cold, or a thermal top!

Basic Matalan modal t shirts layered over Matalan very long vest tops or Brora thermal lace-edged camisoles under their thermal t-shirts.Me and Em jersey long shirts - as they fit over norkage.Cashmere jumpers/cardigans from Tk Maxx mainly, often layered over a thermal camisole if cold.

Cami or vest top worn under a nice wool round neck long sleeve cardigan - leaving the top few buttons undone is good if you have a bust.

V-neck or wrap tops with 3/4 sleeves OR Tunic tops (but have to be fitted and fairly plain - no waterfall/swing styles or florals/crazy patterns) with slim jeans and ankle boots

Sweater dresses with thick tights/treggings and boots

I know what you mean about stripy tops...I have gazillions, love them, but you do need an alternative sometimes Grin

I'm considering some shirts. Not sure about gingham plus the Gap one is sold out.

Maybe a plain white shirt, or is that boring? I'm not mad keen on big prints.

I'm having this dilemma too. I have stupid sized boobs, so anything that goes over them is way way to big on the hips. Am allergic to wool so can't wear it next to my skin. I want a v neck long sleeved woven type t shirt thing I think

coastingit how are Uniqlo's sizes? Do they come up small/big? How fitted are the jumpers?

Would have to order online as there's no store nearby.

Stevie - I'm an 8/10 on top and the S merino jumper fits perfectly. It's a lovely shape, nice and long sleeves, slightly longer at back, sort of boxy and fitted at the same time.

I want the Gap one in the wine colour so sizing feedback on that would be welcome Brenda!

uniqlo sizes are Japanese so on the smaller size I would suggest

Last winter I got masses and masses of wear out of a marks & spencer black cashmere jumper. Size up to make it a bit more chic.

Is Uniqlo cashmere as nice as m&s? I'd like a black one and a light grey one to wear over a white shirt this autumn.

I'm v boring - only black, white and grey for me now, with occasional navy. It means everything in my wardrobe matches!

get just ordered a white jersey shirt from Me and Em, thanks for the tip. Expensive but lovely quality and good for layering under cardies etc.

Also ordered a Boden shirt which is going back, too tight on my boobs unfortunately.
