I'm fed up of resembling a bag lady with my various bag for life/carrier combos that I seem to take my planner and files home in. I'd like something practical, fairly large and nice looking but without a hefty price tag. I don't plan to carry books home for marking in it (planning on little storage boxes for that bit) but will take folders of pupil work in it.Might want to take my laptop occasionally but I mostly work on that at home and take a pen drive.
Any ideas? I did try posting in the staffroom section but no response.

I'm not a teacher but have to carry a laptop around most days.
I use a trolley style bag which has saved my back:

Thanks for the suggestion. That is lovely but is probably bigger and pricier than I'm after.

How about something like this from Debenhams? I bought a similar one last year for exactly the same purpose and it's been great!

I do quite like that actually! It looks like a real bag not a lugging stuff to school and back bag, which is what I'm after really!

I am not a teacher but carry a laptop and all my other gubbins in one single bag, rather than the 2 or 3 separate ones I got fed up lugging around.
I have a Boden Chelsea bag from a few seasons ago. It was the largest leather tote type bag I could find at the time, it is about 45cm x 45cm. I got mine from the Boden ebay shop. Mine is patent leather so quite stiff and stands neatly upright under my desk during the day. Boden have a slouchy tote bag this season which is a similar size.
TK Maxx good for a rummage. If you like oilcloth bags Orla Kiely is sometimes good value on Amazon.

I have a Kipling tote. Can't use a leather one (although I have a lovely one) because it's just too heavy.

I have an Eastpak messenger which is not particularly beautiful but very serviceable.

Comes in a million colours and designs if you trawl amazon.

Try reisenthel, they ship from germany, but quickly and for a reasonable price, and are good quality:

Do people tend to take laptops to school? Hadn't even entered my head. I'm on the bus, so need things to be as light as possible!

i dont take mine home. I have my own at home.
Our place is replacing laptops with desktops so they can be fixed remotely more easily

Thanks for the suggestions!

No- I only occasionally take the laptop in. It's mostly for planners, coursework folders, booklets etc. And yes, I'll be using storage boxes for the exercise books.

I broke and tracked down one like greengardenpixie's on Amazon. I'm gutted I didn't get it when it was still in stock at the sale price yesterday but hey ho. I think I needed something bright and cheery!
