Quick, are loafers mumsy? Need answers fast!

I always think they are on me, but then I see them on other women and think they make them look quite stylish.

I need a shoe that isn't a sandal or a boot for warm, wet weather!

I'm awfully fond of a brown tasselled loafer.

Less fond of this kind of loafer.

I think it must depend on the rest of your look. Loafers are quite preppy, aren't they? And if you are Alexa Chung, you use that semiotic aspect if them and play it off something else to create a snap of sartorial dissonance.

However, if you are wearing a complete 'Weimar librarian' / very mumsy look, the cognitive dissonance might be lacking.

So, how do you wear your loafers?

I like loafers, though. I think you should get them.

I think you should go NC.

I think it would take more than a pair of loafers to make someone look mumsy. You have to take into consideration the whole outfit, hair, etc.

I don't know what my look is anymore tbh, that's part of the problem! Three years as a SAHM and I still haven't figured it out.

It was much easier when I was working.

Loafers are great. You can wear them with ankle socks, a short summer dress and a denim jacket, or with jeans rolled up to the ankle or mid-calf/cropped or longer shorts, if you can carry off that 50s look.
They look great with an office/preppy look too.

They are waterproof.

This is important: one awful holiday some particularly bad footwear + rain gVe our son trench foot.

Not good.

Depends on the loafer - eg that Hotter horror above is - and what they're worn with but generally, no.

I had a really nice brown tasselled pair - and indeed I was hoping for an Alexa Chung-ish effect - but I just couldn't get on with them, I did always feel s little frumpy so I sold them on.

Sorry, but the answer to your question is "yes".

Those red ones are not loafers and are truly awful A lot of the young, rich, beautiful, tanned, posh girls wear them and look fabulous in them but yes, they can look frumpy if worn in the wrong way.

Truckingalong · 10/08/2015 21:34

The distinction is subtle. The 1st pic is frumpy.

2nd pic isn't frumpy.

I can't see some of the pictures. They don't show up on my phone. No idea why not.

I'm agog now.
Hmm

That's me sad.

Shock That's the closest I can get to agog. Try thinking if it as slightly amphetine-y and alert rather than surprised.

I didn't buy them in the end. I can see they look good on others, but on me I just look at myself and think "frump frump frumpety frump."

And I don't think I am frumpy, as a rule. I'm just terrified of ending up that way.

I love my tasselled brown loafers. I wear them with my big nerd glasses and vintage ralph lauren stuff.
I look clever.
I'm not, but I look it!
