Will I regret getting a fringe?

I am in the middle of post-pregnancy hair-falling-out-then-regrowing misery. I am seriously considering having a fringe cut into my long thick, wavy hair to help disguise the regrowth sticking up round my hairline.

However I am seriously low-maintainence when it comes to my hair, it is normally pulled up in a 'mum bun' (though this tends to look dire at the moment due to the regrowth hell).

Am I just going to find dealing with a fringe a faff, or can it be easy to style?

I love my fringe and it makes me look more done, when the rest is just scraped back. Takes two mins with straighteners or sometimes I pin it in to a bit of a quiff type thing.

Also good for hiding forehead wrinkles

I got one on a whim and have spent the last two years growing it out. Be VERY certain before you go for it!

Do it do it! I've always wanted a fringe, but i have a high hairline and a cowlick so hairdressers always talk me out of it

I like having one- it can make you look more groomed in a matter of minutes so I say go for it.

I love mine - I keep it eye skimming so I can wear it as a full on bang, to the side or put it back in a high ponytail with a hair grip.

I'm seriously contemplating - to avoid exposure of future frown lines, plus I've started to get vitiligo on my forehead. But I last grew out my fringe when I was 14, almost 30 years ago, and I can still remember what a pain in the arse growing it out was!

Hmm I think I need a chat with a hairdresser as I think I might have a cowlick issue plus an uneven hairline which might scupper the idea.

I spent years growing my hair out of a crop and I can't imagine growing out a fringe can be any more painful, but I really did hate the process.

I've had a fringe for.......about 45 years . Not counting childhood years.

Sometimes I get fed up of it but as I have no brow lines it must have done some good.

I am considering it too. My baby is 1 now but the regrowth looks worse than ever. I have thick hair too so the loss in volume isn't noticeable but I look like a scarecrow.

If you have greasy hair be aware that a fringe can make this very obvious though I'd never just wash my fringe & not the rest of my hair

Make sure you know how to dry it properly. Makes a massive difference.

Google 'sali Hughes fringe drying' - it's just the drying technique you need not all the products and stuff. But it makes my fringe look amazing!

No, I get one every few years and always end up regretting it and growing it out. Too much faff keeping it blowdried (it looks awful if I don't do it every day, which is a PITA when camping etc) and the right length. It goes frizzy at the slightest hint of moisture in the air and gets sweaty under hats. It also looks a bit dated with my hair (below shoulders, wavy long layers, with a fringe looks a bit 1980s).

Oh god you're putting me off with talk of blow drying techniques! I only use my hair dryer to make my hair dry, I can't style with it!

I got convinced by my hairdresser... It looked great for 7 days until it grew.
I'm growing it out now. Grumbling...

I have one on and off - it's great! I'm 39. Growing it out isn't too bad you just get a slightly more diagonal cut. I have poker straight hair - if you get one read Sali Hughes' advice on blowdrying it.

a fringe is great but remember it needs trimming and if you do it yourself it doesn't look as good. it can also need styling eg blowdrying

Get it so you can find out whether it suits you or not.

I was itching for a fringe for ages, got one, realised immediately it didn't suit me, proceeded to grow it out.

That's the beauty of hair, it grows.

A fringe can look good but there are most definetly down sides:

If you get hot, it can create spots under it.
It constantly needs trimmed.
If your hair is dirty, your fringe will show it.
Its a pain to grow out.
Its a hard look to carry off with glasses.

The advantages

It can look nice.
It hides frown lines.

It is only hair though and will grow so why not try it if you think you might suit it.

I have round face with chubby cheeks though so afraid I'd look like Dora the Explorer.

Even when I love a new fringe on departing the salon, within days I am frantically growing it out again. Look dirty to quickly on me, and I can't style it right. Gets a silly, little girls doll kink in it when I do it...rooooobish.

I love my fringe. It's a really thick heavy full fringe, comes to my eyes and does a useful job of hiding a little patch of vitiligo on my forehead.
My hair is quite mad and wavy, rarely gets brushed and in the winter time the rest of my skin colour pales a little anyway so the vitiligo isn't noticeable and I pin it up sometimes into a sort of quiff.
Needs a quick straighten once it's dried (I don't own a hairdryer) but with a comb it takes between 1-2 minutes.
I love mine. Get my fringe trimmed every 2-3 weeks or do it myself very tentatively if hairdresser is unavailabe.

I have had a heavy blunt fringe in my thick wavy hair for the last couple of years

I wear it long and trim it myself every couple of weeks

It's very good at disguising temple white grey patch in between me doing my roots
Strangely I don't have much grey on top so it buys me another couple of weeks between root touch ups

I've always had one- don't like my forehead exposed.
Straighteners help a lot to keep if looking ok. I don't wash my hair every day but always straighten my fringe.

Biggest issue is that it needs trimming more often than the rest of my hair needs cutting (every 3 weeks ish). My hairdresser will trim it for free but I don't have time so have had to learn to trim it myself
