Cashmere?

I'm after something stylish and good quality to wear to-and-from the office instead of a jacket, most likely will be worn with skinny jeans / slim-fit trousers and silky tops. I like the idea of a cashmere cardigan (longer-length, almost slouchy fitting rather than of the twin-set kind). It will be for work so needs to look good but our office is a pretty cool/stylish place so desperate to avoid looking frumpy!

I already have one in cream (bought abroad so going back for another colour isn't an option unfortunately) but am looking for grey (any shade).

Any suggestions on where to look for something chic but affordable or suitable alternatives?

I like Pure cashmere and they often have good discounts - 25% or thereabouts.

What's your budget?

Brora cashmere is £££ but amazing. Worth looking at the sale. Ditto Jaeger.

I've had good high street cashmere from Gap and Uniqlo but it's the wrong time of year for Bon of them; it'll start to arrive with the a/w collections. TK Maxx often has a reasonable selection of cashmere but again it won't appear for a few weeks yet.

I'm looking at up to around the £250 mark.

I have some great merino things from Gap and Uniqlo but somehow it feels wrong to spend oodles on something from either of those! I guess they're firmly established as cheaper go-to places in my head.

I agree. Brora excellent.

Best slouchy cardis I've had are from Pure and Uniqlo.

Uniqlo haven't got their winter stuff in yet, but it's worth waiting for. I'm after something similar in pink. But can only find taupe, grey and navy ATM.

Ah, with a budget like that then definitely step away from the Gap / Uniqlo cashmere and go straight to Brora. Their sale is on at the moment and there's lots within your budget: www.brora.co.uk/Product/Category.aspx?WebShopCodeStr=A4&WebSegmentCodeStr=S2&WebCategoryCodeStr=CA

The cashmere is in a another league and will last you a lifetime if you look after it.

Agree about Brora and Pure Collection.

However, I wouldn't recommend a cashmere cardigan as a jacket - your bag, seat belt etc. (depending on how you commute) will cause snags/bobbling in regular use because it's so soft.

How about a knitted blazer, like this? www.jaeger.co.uk/knitted-blazer/601058R-75600-XS.html?cgid=women&q=knitted%20blazer Not cashmere, but as an aside I've found Jaeger cashmere to be good.

Eric Bompard. Love them. They have sales precisely twice a year, being French, I buy one or two a year.

Just a heads up that Uniqlo do have their merino in now. I may have ordered a couple of the boxy pure merino sweaters as worried they will sell out if I wait until it's cold enough to wear them!

There's also Mahogony Cashmere and Paris Bon bon. Expensive delivery though

The Uniqlo merino is nice and great value (stays nice for ages!). Still looking for cashmere for something a bit more luxe.

Repeat cashmere is worth a look.
