Interview help!

I have a job interview on Thursday and looks like it will be a very hot day here. I was going to wear my only suit which is a black skirt and jacket with a plain white top . However can I go without tights? Or should i wear sheer tights even though will be hot. Or should I wear some smart black trousers and s sharp shirt, no jacket? Will be cooler.

Or new outfit? What though?

It is a job in a college, teaching adults.

Wouldn't the black skirt with a sharp shirt & no tights be cooler than black trousers? I was going to say ditch the skirt suit jacket, but black skirt with white shirt just screams waitress, which is not the job you're going for.

Thanks. Just not sure about the no tights thing. I will have a look at tops which aren't white.

I definitely wouldn't go no tights to an interview. I'm in education too. Maybe that's just me being uptight but every woman I've seen on an interview panel had been wearing tights.

I'd wear the trousers and shirt if that's cooler. Or wear the skirt suit with the jacket into the room and take it off if it is really hot? If the panel are all wearing full suits and they have decent air con you have the option to keep the jacket on.

If you're buying, what about a smart dress with a slightly swingy skirt and a light cardi over the top? Nude 10 denier tights are pretty cool. That's what I wore to my Pgce interview and I got a place (they are really desperate for physics teachers though!).

I think you can do the no tights but I think it depends on the shoes - do they hurt without tights ? The skirt will look fine but some shoes just look odd with bare legs (obviously thats just IMO!)
I would carry a pair in my bag in case you have a panic as you arrive - just nip into the toilets there (or a near by coffee shop) and put them on. M&S do some 7 denier cooling ones that are great.
I would also ditch the jacket and look for a non white top.

If you're buying I'd agree that a dress could be better. Might be cooler!

Aargh don't know what to do!

I don't think no tights will be good either if I'm honest. Veering towards a shirt with smart trousers look. Can't afford a dress though unfortunately. Might buy the tights anyway and decide on the day!

Thanks. I am up in the middle of the night thinking about this! Ridiculous. Probably won't get the job anyway!

As long as you look vaguely professional, what you say will be much more important than what you're wearing. I know that doesn't help with 330am insomnia nerves! Really good luck with the interview.

I would do shirt with smart trousers, I don't like having bare legs in the workplace, doesn't seem formal enough imho but that's probably just me....

And best of luck!

Thanks everyone. Off to bed now. I think the trousers shirt combo is the one. Just feels less corporate but still smart. Will decide on the day though but due to be very hot!
