Who says you're too old for a plait? I'm 39 and I wear a single one over one shoulder. It's quite a casual look, though- I wouldn't do it for work, or if I was making an effort.

I recently had my hair cut from around waist length to around bra strap length and I used to have my hair in different side plaits, such as a French one, or plain one or whatever I felt like. I'm 32 and people have asked me in the supermarket and on the street how I do the plaits.

I also put my hair up in a bun a lot - sometimes a messy bun just done with a hair elastic, other times a ballerina bun, usually done with these: www.claires.co.uk/brown-pin-twirls-hair-tool-/shop/fcp-product/20335
I still do now it's too short for plaits and I hate having my hair down.

Or I put my hair up with a big hair grip like this: www.alexandredeparis-store.com/art-basiques-lisere-6908.htm
My mum is a bit older than me and she uses those hair grips too. Or she uses smaller ones and makes a French roll type of thing.

A nice pony tail is great - I like them with this kind of thing: www.alexandredeparis-store.com/art-basiques-classiques-6689.htm

There are loads of tutorials on youtube.

I need ideas too! I normally leave mine down and sometimes clip the front to one side. Or wear it half up half down.
I think I need to face the reality that it needs the chop to look nice and groomed

yes, that's what im thinking too, princess....its all very nice having long swishy hair but hard to look smart, or even presentable.

Around where I live (chester, so wag territory), the classically well groomed yummy mummys have short blonde bobs, young glamourpusses have long blonde swishy hair always down, and then there's the brunette brigade who chuck it all in a bun, i'm in the last group but feel so frumpy, because i'm too old to get away with chucking it into a top knot unlike those youngsters. (I already have ishoos as I know im the oldest school gate mum - can you tell!)
