Where do you get henna from?

Starting to grey and I want to cover them, have recently gone very "natural" and trying to avoid chemicals of any kind... But I'm nervous as have no experience with henna and not sure how it works. Don't really want to change colour - am a dark brown naturally

Henna is cheap as chips in most Indian supermarkets. You have to be very careful when buying it though as it often contains added chemicals.

If you are using pure henna to colour your greys they will end up a dark coppery orange. They won't blend in with your dark brown hair, especially if you have streaks of grey.

It's difficult to know how strong the colour payoff will be with henna. Like tea, it depends on the quality of the crop and the way that it was dried and packaged.

I get mine from Henna Boy.

For dark brown you'll need indigo as well as henna, mixing them together in different ratios will give varying shades from very red to almost black.

Another vote for Lush henna. They add stuff to it so you don't have to, they'll even apply it for you in the shop (if you can stand the smell for long enough...)

Thanks everyone, might try lush till I build up my confidence,

Probably an important question I forgot... Will it leak if I go swimming? Grin

Which Henna stores apply it for you btw? All of them or just certain branches?

And how do you disguise on the way home? I don't have a car so would have to public transport all the way back... I think London would prob be my nearest place for lush stores...
