Breaking in my Birkies

Lidlfix · 09/05/2015 18:50

Due to long service and a Scottish owner ( aware my experience of summer might differ from those in south) my trusty Birkies are old enough to attend school. Therefore my recollection of the agh to ahh phase is vague. How long and any tips?

I wasn't aware they had an "argh" phase! Mine didn't.

And I would never buy shoes that weren't comfortable from day one, because, in my experience, they stay uncomfortable.

Mine was about a week, I was on the verge of returning them then the next day....aaaah!

Do they fit you properly? I've been wearing different styles and they were comfortable since the first wear.

Mine took about a fortnight of intermittent wear. I think it's your feet adjusting to the bump in the middle. Try wearing round the house and find something nice to bite on!

Mine never hurt (one of the few dandals that don't! ). Do you have leather or birko flor? The non leather are actually a lot softer. The leather ones could perhaps do with some vaseline on them to soften (on the straps I mean, not the footbed).

Have never had a problem

They fit like a glove from day one

Are they the right size ? Don't ever let anyone tell you that you need to size down.

I agree with AnyFucker. I don't see the need to size down in Birkies and have been wearing them for years. Never had to break a pair in. Every pair I've owned I've been able to wear them comfortably from first wear. I bought a pair for dd and she was happy in hers straight away too.

Your foot must be completely inside the footbed rim.

Couple of weeks wearing them for a few hours a day ime. Birkies have never been super comfy for me, I find them a bit hard but the Clarks version is amazing as they are slightly cushioned on the foot bed.

I've found them variable. I had a pair that were instant comfort from day one, and a different pair in a different style that never broke in and nearly broke my feet...they had the most inflexible sole ever, far stiffer than my previous fab pair.
I have a new pair that is a bit middling, but because I like them I'm going to soldier on.

Can I show off my new birkies? I think they are rather lovely. Got them on ebay at a bargainous price.

I love those, Selks.

I have the Arizona, but the soles seem rather dull now.

Mine are always great from the start - I have a couple of pairs of Gizeh and a pair of Mayari, but I'm itching to buy some more...

I had 2 pairs maybe 10 years ago and they were fab.

Then a bought another couple and they ripped the tops of my feet to shreds. The strap was rubbing and it was so painful.

I haven't bought any since, should I try again?

Will wear them around the house and bend them to try to gain a bit more "give". The style is a new one for me -relax 100, I thought they were Madrids, these are a woman's style so feel slightly snugger which is better as I'm not trying to "grip" with my toes. Guff, I get the farting noise too, usually when my feet are sweaty Angry glad it's not just me! They didn't do this when they were new (first 3 years) so if these new ones don't fart I'll consider renewing the foot beds.

Has anyone else found that some styles have much stiffer soles than others?
