Shorts! Or other hot weather options?

It's that time of year again.

I find shorts pretty tricky and really prefer skirts and dresses. My legs are definitely not my best feature! I'm 5'5" hourglass shape (big boobs) and my legs are shortish and not very toned. I look better in heels, even a low heel.

But as a family we're quite outdoorsy and active and sometimes really shorts would be the best option. Do flattering shorts exist?! Any thoughts on styles/lengths to try? Knee length look dire.

I keep my legs covered as a) I don't really like them, but also b) I've had some dodgy moles removed. Trousers have never got in the way of me doing sports or other outdoorsy things, just I wear suitable ones! Wear trousers if you like.

Knee length shorts probably flatter no one. I'd suggest either shorter, or er, longer. Which would be a trouser! I've been no help here have I?

Any suggestions for lightweight summer trousers for when it's too hot for jeans?
