I have a significant birthday coming up and my OH is taking me to London on a spending spree and to see a show. Where are the best places in London to buy plus size clothes. ð???

Also I want to visit a make up counter and get made over and buy make up. Which is the best one for a natural look Smile

It depends. What's your style/budget?

I've had some lovely pieces from Oska but here ain't cheap. On the other end of the scale, Simply Be have a shop on Oxford Street, near the Tottenham Court Road end.

Definitely Marina Rinaldi at 5 Albermarle Street - just really nice Itlaian styled stuff in really nice materials but expensive - very helpful staff no pressure.

Gudren Sjoden have a shop in Monmoth Street. Don't be put off by the explosion-in-a-pattern-factory styling on the website. There are some pretty nice individual pieces (am wearing a purple velvet dress of her's today in fact) and the sizing and cut are pretty generous.

I was also going to say Marina Rinaldi.

This place has some very nice pieces, and it's a few doors up the road from Gudren Sjoden!

Was going to say Simply Be, but see someone beat me to it. Have a look at the Simply Be website, too. There is some stunning clothes on it that won't be in the shop (not enough room to stock everything)

Marina Rinaldi definitely the best.

I have looked into the Simply Be store in Oxford St and found it a mass of garishly coloured polyester. Not at all in same league Marina Rinaldi which is the plus size line of Max Mara. Cheaper though.

Beige in New Cavendish St sells higher end plus sized clothing. Website is //www.beigeplus.com

Instead of clothes that simply cover plus sizes in singularly unattractive styles colours and materials Marina Rinaldi has clothes which actually looks nice and makes you feel great wearing them - and mysteriously slimmer!

Exactly what Jumbo said.
Base is too unstructured and tenty for my taste.

The staff at Beige in New Cavendish St aren't very helpful or, in some cases, even polite and there is a lot of frumpy garish German plus size stuff there but you can occasionally find the odd piece there. They do have some M Rinaldi stuff but the experience of going isn't nearly as nice as going to the Rinaldi shop in Albemarle St.

The staff at the Beige in the City are actually nicer than the majority in the N Cavendish St one but they deal mainly in smart safe workwear.

For makeup recommend Bobbi Brown or Space NK.

If you go to Marina Rinaldi be sure to look on all floors (lots of stairs!) as they are themed differently - sporty more casual styles, more formal etc. Then in the changing room the assistant will bring you masses of stuff on a moveable rail some of which is not on display to try on and make suggestions, bring coffee etc.

How much is Marina Rinaldi stuff? Is it 500 quid for a t shirt or can you buy an outfit/dress for 100 ish

More expensive than Jigsaw ? Which is currently polyester t shirts for 70 quid Hmm

Marina Rinaldi is designer prices, £80-£100 for a t shirt, £400-£500 for dresses (daywear), but they have some lovely stuff. DM got her mother of the bride outfit from Marina Rinaldi at Selfridges but apparently they don't stock it anymore as plus sizes 'don't fit with Selfridges image' WTF?

Yes I've dressed in M Rinaldi for many years (used to wear nothing else) and was very cross when Selfridges stopped stocking it.

Btw don't think the selection on the H of F site gives a great impression of MR. Their own shop is better. I try to buy their stuff in Italy if poss as they have the widest selection and are a bit cheaper. Butlondon shop is nice.
