Hi,
I'm considering adding an oil to my skincare routine but am unsure as my skin is very reactive and sensitive. Does anyone else have a similar skin type and gets on ok with one?

I absolutely love Liz Earle but this really didnt work for my skin, made it feel very irritated.

I tried oils a few years ago and got cystic acne and scarring, plus milia around my eyes. Never again. Sensitive skin, rosacea/perioral/acne prone plus I'm allergic to something in cosmetics.

I've inherited sensitive reactive skin unfortunately .I use pure organic wheatgerm oil with a couple of drops of Rose and Geranium organic oils.Sometimes I use almond as a base oil too.I find this regime soothing to my skin and find the scent relaxing for night time use.I would be wary about using any of the manufactured oil blends as there will often be preservatives and chemical additives in addition to the natural oils.
However you can react to absolutely anything - even natural oils can cause an allergic reaction so the best thing is to trial a regime initially.I have found I still get very occasional patches of Psoriasis with this regime but a dab of Hydrocortisone ointment sorts them out.

Thanks for your replies.
I think I'm going to give it a miss as my skin is so sensitive and I can't use a lot of natural ranges due to the essential oils, I just get so tempted when I hear people talking about massaging oils and balms into the skin it sounds so appealing grrrr!
FrugalFashionista...what skincare do you use?

It depends on what makes you reactive OP. For some it's essential oils, for some it's chemicals and for some like me, it's fragrance whether chemical or 'natural'.

Here are two oils which work for me: REN www.renskincare.com/ProductPage.aspx?ProductId=3707 Slightly fragranced but I can get away with it.
www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=32 Totally fragrance free.

For me it's definitely fragrance but also products rich in essential oils, probably because a lot of the components in essential oils are similar to that in fragrance.
I have tried that ren one and I found it didn't absorb well into my skin and after a few days of using my face became very irritated.
Think I've decided to blow out any oils for my skin, I'm my own worst enemy keep trying to go back to them!
Thanks everyone tho!

Liz Earle stuff is actually what kicked my rosacea off. I persisted using it for years, thinking it was diet, etc etc. I think its' the essential oils, or the muslin cloths.

Anyway, I've been using the oil from the M&S 'pure' range (the overnight anti-aging oil). I like it and I don't react to it.

I have a feeling that's "one" of things that sensitised my skin too as I used to use the range years ago and kept persisting.
I will have a look on the m&s website thanks for that.

What about coconut oil? Couple of quid for a tub so not a big investment if it doesn't work.

I have very sensitive skin and I use almond oil, wheatgerm oil or coconut oil.

Indecisive, I use daily sunscreen, mineral makeup or BB cream, then cleanse with micellar and castile soap (as recommended by a dermatologist). I moisturize with Effaclar K and Eucerin 5%. Now experimenting with Cerave PM worn overnight. Hot cloth would definitely be a rosacea trigger for me and overzealous cleansing probably caused my perioral dermatitis. My skin likes salicylates, but in moderation, not necessarily daily. For sore skin, zinc creams are really soothing.

Thanks Frugal it's really hard battling lots of different skin concerns isn't it!
Thank you everyone but I have decided not to use any oils, it's not worth the risk. Thanks again.

The Barefoot SOS repair and renew. It is very good and doesn't cause any rection.

I get eczema, rosacea and a yet to be identified rash on my face and neck. So super sensitive.

I also use coconut, almond oil, bio oil pretty much daily.

I use Decleor neroli oil and also their iris oil at the serum stage - after cleansing and before moisturiser. They last for months so I have two different ones and rotate.

Both Clarins blue orchid and AD skin synergy brought me out in angry lumps.

I'm pretty sure years of persevering with Liz Earle wrecked my skin too, nasty stuff! Actually the old formula was great but then it was changed. Feck knows why I used it for soooooooo longHmm

Jojoba oil is the most hypoallergenic, Rosehip is really good for eczema, Tamanu and Moringa are really nice nourishing ones

I have eczema and have just bought the REN rose-hip one. It brings me out in angry hives, so that was £44 down the drain

Tenderbuttons take it back!! Tell them you had an allergic reaction and they will refund you.

If they give you any trouble definitely stand your ground! It's your right as a consumer to get a refund on a product that caused a reaction. To be fair you shouldn't have a problem anyway as most places are fairly good at this, you just get the odd one or two who can't do their job properly.

That's good to know! Would you usually get a full refund? I've used half a tub of Olay moisturizer, but started getting a reaction only now, I wonder if there's anything they could do?
