Simple question - is this acceptable?

Boyfriend say should keep them on at all times!!

OP posts:
isthatmorelego · 30/03/2015 16:05

Tell boyfriend to wear them then!! I walked around barefoot at work when my feet kill

eurochick · 30/03/2015 16:06

Under desk is fine unless your feet honk, but I wouldn't walk around barefoot at work.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 30/03/2015 16:07

Under desk - ok, walking around - no!

Here's a novel idea: wear flats or have a spare pair of comfier shoes at work.

burnishedsilver · 30/03/2015 16:07

Not acceptable.
Wear more comfortable shoes if your shoes are a problem.

Judydreamsofhorses · 30/03/2015 16:08

Not even under desk if you're in a shared office, but if you have your own then I think it's fine.

Fevertree · 30/03/2015 16:10

yep mine come off under the desk. I share my office with one other person who does this too!

QueenBean · 30/03/2015 16:10

Take the off under desk = fine

Walking around without them = not fine

How would anyone know you've taken them off under your desk....? Unless they got down on hands and knees and bogged under the desk for a look. In which case, you've got bigger problems than just your shoes being off.

Carpaccio · 30/03/2015 16:14

If you can't wear your heels all day, wear something else. It's better for your feet in the long run anyway.

When walking a lot, you could change into a more comfortable pair of shoes.

zinnia · 30/03/2015 16:26

Shoes off under desk is fine where I work, but I'd rather wear flats on the commute and keep the heels for the office anyway.

Walking barefoot really not OK, at least not in my workplace! I had an MD once who was in the habit of padding about in his socks, but he was the MD.

Pumpkinette · 30/03/2015 17:04

As said by others - under desk is fine, walking around isn't. Why don't you get some ballet flats and leave at the office. Easy to slip on for a walk to the printer / to make a cup of coffee etc. I'm pretty sure it's even in our dress code that appropriate footwear must be worn in the office.

CointreauVersial · 30/03/2015 18:43

It wouldn't be acceptable in my office (mostly formally-dressed men; I would almost certainly get the hard stare if I started wandering around in my stockinged feet.

Paperblank · 30/03/2015 19:12

We do tend to slip our shoes off under our desks from time to time. Unfortunately so does the woman who has less than fragrant feet...

daftyburd · 30/03/2015 19:23

No dress code where I work apart from shoes must be worn and the must have a back or strap. No flip flop type styles. The owners of the building insist on it for health and safety reasons. I'm glad because I hate other peoples feet. I always imagine I can smell them.

specialsubject · 30/03/2015 19:41

shoes that hurt are useless shoes. Show me a man that wears useless shoes. Waddling round in fugly high heels isn't a good look anyway.

buy some that fit and don't hurt. It may just catch on...

DustBunnyFarmer · 30/03/2015 19:43

I had a colleague who used to do this. She had very choosy feet. IME people with the worst cheesy feet often lack awareness about it and raising it in a work setting is very awkward.

DustBunnyFarmer · 30/03/2015 19:44

Effing spellcheck. Cheesy NOT choosy.

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 30/03/2015 19:46

Keep them on, wear something comfier if necessary.

ChaiseLounger · 30/03/2015 19:50

walking around? good grief no!!

CarbeDiem · 30/03/2015 20:09

My shoes come off under the desk. If I've got tights on I'll wander to the coffee machine without shoes too. I do it with all slip on shoes not just uncomfortable ones.
I don't have cheesy, sweaty or smelly feet. I'm very aware of this.

WipsGlitter · 30/03/2015 20:12

I saw a poster on here once say she wore her slippers in work! Confused

MauriceTheCat · 30/03/2015 21:39

Yes - unless I am in with a patient! I have a cooling gel mat I rest my feet on especially after ward rounds or if the nurses have pinched it Grin

ElizabethHoover · 30/03/2015 22:57

That health and safety thing is a myth btw

Elizabeth HSE law might not ban them but every corporate office I've ever worked in does.

On answer to your OP - walking around in socking feet is unprofessional and hazardous.

Also just fairly unpleasant for everyone else.

Snowberry86 · 30/03/2015 23:08

I'm an assistant head in a secondary school, I need the heels to go with my pencil skirt and suits. However they are not ideal to teach lessons in as you can't be quite nimble enough to nip round desks, and they make your feet ache. Simple solution- I teaches lessons bare foot. Have done for years. I get some strange looks and comments from the kids when I first take over a class but after a while they get used to it!
