Plain non frilled girls clothes.

My daughter is a tall 6 year old. She's wearing clothes for 8 year olds but I'm coming up against a problem that many of the clothes seem to be a bit 'old' for her.

She's also slim and needs elastic waists that can be gathered in - for example she has a pair of jeans (age 8) that are now slightly too short for her on the leg, yet the amount of material gathered at the waist is ridiculous.

She likes wearing pull-on t-shirt or pinafore like dresses in bold colours over t-shirts and short leggings with no extra frills, no sequins, not tight which when she was smaller were really easy to find everywhere but now she's older I'm finding really hard.

Can anyone recommend anywhere that does really simple dresses - no frills no flounces, or do I have to learn how to sew Sad

I really like TinyVikings stuff but believe that the owner is on maternity leave and not creating dresses though the fabric is available.

Anything on Verbaudet? I've had some nice things from there and they're pretty good on elasticated waists.

Boden is good for a lot of this type of thing - they do have some frills, but also lots of plain styles. Can be expensive though so I often buy on ebay for kids Boden stuff.

Boots and Sainsbury's can have some nice plain and simple stuff in among the frills – often it's the cheaper lines.

Mine is the same - we've had nice things from verbadaut, john lewis (online is good), sainsburys (though always a bit of a muddle), boden, hennes, zara.

Thanks have looked at Vertbaudet and Hennes. I was put off Zara a couple of years ago as I thought the clothes were too 'old' but this may have changed again. I do like JL stuff generally but this season hasn't caught my eye. I would like a shop which does dresses, skirts and t-shirts for girls who are not that keen on kittens, hearts and sequins and flowers.

Plenty of non-flouncy dresses and nice plain tshirts on the Next website.

Yes actually Next, while being a major offender in the flouncy and over-sexualised department, is great for basics and funky, non-girly t-shirts, simple prints, stripes etc. I've often bought from the boys' range for DD too as they have lots of bright colours and pics.
