Hat for a Wedding

I'm now of an age where I'd really like to have a go at a hat for forthcoming weddings.

Having not worn them before, I have absolutely no idea how to begin to find one or narrow down what to look for.

All pointers, linkies etc gratefully received!

I would go to a department store and try on loads! I have a small face, so look blooming ridiculous in anything with a wide brim, but suit quirky clip on style hats/ fascinators from Etsy. Also depends on how your wear your hair. Have fun!

I bought a lovely one from John Lewis on Oxford street about a thousand years ago - they had loads. Hopefully they still do them.

Fenwick on Bond St also have a good selection and Debenhams on Oxford St too.

No shame in trying on hats - the department is usually deserted unless it's wedding season.

Haha no I'm in London so no excuses. Good point about wedding season. Will get down there before it picks up, maybe a Tuesday afternoon or similar quiet time!

Exactly, go to a good dept store and try stuff on. You should start to get a sense of what suits you (eg large brims make me look like a mushroom!) but don't be afraid to ask a friendly shop assistant for thoughts too

Selfridges used to have a corner as do Fortnum and Mason and there's a Philip Tracey store in Chelsea I think if you think you could have a wander around and leave without buying anything.

Sometimes there's a snarky type keeping an eye as they don't want loads of teenagers tittering and wrecking the brims but if you look smartly dressed you'll be left to it or given assistance.

Accessorize is also worth a go as they'll have lots of different types and it's so early in the season, they'll have a fairly full undamaged stock
