Light coverage foundation - best one?

Need your recommendations, having just spent £24 on the Bare Minerals serum/liquid foundation that has given me spots and made my skin look incredibly dry and patchy when I am wearing it. Angry doesn't cover it, I normally have really good skin! And I bought the special brush for it too Sad

Anyway, my skin (I think!) looks good for my age (38 in a couple of weeks) and I'm happy not wearing makeup every day. So I want a foundation that doesn't make me feel like I'm wearing one, if you see what I mean, and I don't need a lot of coverage at all (I like my freckles to show through!).

I've reverted to using the dregs of the Bare Minerals original powder foundation, but I think it looks a bit too powdery and maybe I should be using something with a bit of a 'brightening' effect or that looks a bit 'dewy'.

Any thoughts?

I also vote Laura mercier tinted moisturiser. It's a half way house. All 'light' foundations I have tried at rent that light and give me spots the LM tint is brilliant. If you opt for oil free it's also slightly thicker IMO and gives light cover. On top I use By terry touché velouté from space nk. It's pricey but amazing, just need the by terry stuff under eyes and any red/spots so works nicely with the moisturiser. The moisturiser lasts me a long time (maybe 3-4months?) and the touché v less...maybe 6-8 wks so that is pricey but I use it quite liberally applying twice a day generally and I kind of think it's worth it as stops me getting spots!

I also tried bare minerals and hated it!

I really like the No7 Stay Perfect Superlight that I bought on a whim. They will usually give you a little pot to take home and try for yourself, which is nice.

I bought a bare minerals set with concealer, bronzer, veil, foundation etc one word shit. What a waste of money just awful. For years I've used a cheap and cheerful no7 intelligent colour (black packaging). I have gone back to using this.

Clinique moisture surge. Sort of half way between a tinted moisturiser and a very light foundation.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (I use the oil free version).

Or if you like what the BareSkin foundation was supposed to look like, then the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation could be an option.
I have the Bare Minerals BareSkin foundation and it's absolutely awful on me (making my skin look really oily, while enhancing dry bits and just looking wrong) but I do like the LM foundation.

Laura Mercier are pretty good at giving out samples so you can try before you buy and not waste your money.

I also like Mac Face & Body. It doesn't last as well on me as I'd like, but the finish is lovely and quite natural.

I have freckles too and I don't like covering them up, and my favourite foundations are Estee Lauder Double Wear Light and Diorskin Nude. Both companies have always been very good at giving me samples if I've asked for them. They are more matte than the Laura Mercier and Mac products, but I like them.

My mum (and several people here and generally online) have great things to say about the Origins Vitazing - www.origins.co.uk/product/3858/13004/Skincare/Category/Moisturisers/VitaZing/SPF-15-Energy-boosting-moisturizer-with-Mangosteen/index.tmpl
I haven't tried it myself, but my mum looks great when wearing this one.
I don't know how good they are with samples but it's worth asking them before buying.

Another vote for No 7 Stay Perfect Superlight. It's the shizzle.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser or Chanel Vitalumier Aqua I love.

The BM gave me angry spots and aggravated a skin condition I usually only suffer with on my scalp and behind my ears which wasn't fun!

Great, thanks for all the quick responses!

I don't know what it was about the Bare Minerals liquid stuff, I never get spots, I don't even remember having any spots as a teenager, but within a couple of days of using that stuff I had 5!

Boots no 7 Superlight foundation - probably the best foundation I've ever used!

Another vote for Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturiser. I also like Bourjois Healthy Mix for a bit more coverage but find it a tad shiny for my oily skin so have to use with a mattifying primer and more powder to set than I need with LM.

Check out Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua too, beautifully light.

I picked up Max Factor Illuminizer Foundation in an emergency but I actually really like it and have just bought it again. It's light coverage, but with a bit of brightening, and it feels comfortable on my dry skin.

I love Clinique CC cream. It's light enough that if I feel I want to apply a wee bit more on some areas to freshen up mid-afternoon, it doesn't feel like I'm gett a caked-up face. People are always commenting on how nice and glowy my skin looks and it's SPF 30.

Bourjois CC cream is my current favourite. I've tried loads of the cheaper foundations recommended on here and this one is really good.

It feels light
It's a good colour match
It looks better applied with fingers than a brush.
It's natural looking.
Had a compliment when wearing it! Along the lines of 'you look well'.
