I've been looking for a small/medium hobo style bag for a while. I didn't particularly set out for grey but have narrowed it down to these two?

Number one - Peony and Moore:

And number two - Whistles:

There's quite a big price difference too....over you to MNers! Smile

Now my opinion should be ignored as I have canvas FatFace bag my sister donated when my previous one fell apart.

But I am trying to get into handbag mode.

I prefer number 1. The colour looks distinctive. Not sure about the dangly bits.

Number 2 - I just don't like that large leather crinkle look.

I prefer the second one; I find the first one a bit "mumsy".

I like both. Does that help? Grin

It would prob come down to the fact the first one is £80 cheaper. Poss think the lighter grey is easier to wear for summer too..

I can't see where the extra £80 is tbh - - the first one looks lovely at a much better price !Smile

Much prefer the second one.

Definitely not peony and Moore. The other one is lovely. Peony and Moore are rubbish!

They were hugely recommended on here a few years ago but I found the leather to not be great and the bag hasn't aged well at all. I gave it to the charity shop in the end.

Hmmm, oh dear, a 50/50 split then!

Whistles - but it really depends on the rest of your wardrobe, you want your style to be congruent.

The Whistles one is lovely. The other one looks cheap.

I would prefer 1 as don't really like the shape of 2, it's still a nice bag though. Depends how much stuff you need to fit in it!

I'm tempted by the whistles one but it is a lot of money and doesn't have pockets as someone said above. I do like a small pocket for phone and keys.

do whistles ever do promotions?

They are a brand that you pay for the name not the quality of the bag - never seen a promotion from them - - comes down to personal choice again - what do you want from your bag etc. size, pockets, straps, etc. forget the price and then see which one you prefer - -

The first one looks really mumsy. I really can't understand why the brand is so popular.

The whistles one is so much more young and stylish. Looks like beautiful leather.

Definitely the second one.

Please don't apologise for handbag threads; I love them. Definitely the Whistles. The other is prissy. And by the sounds of other people's comments not that great.
Have you looked at the Marc Jacobs hobo? U think it's lovely.

Report
Brookville · 26/02/2015 23:38

Oops sorry I think it's lovely!

I think someone on here yesterday mentioned that it was time for a Whistles promotion soon... one around this time last year??

I prefer the second bag, but don't really love the Whistles logo (despite being a fan of their stuff generally) - however it's pretty discreet, and the leather looks nice.

Hope the discount comes along soon.

I love handbag threads too :)

Definitely no. 2 for me too. Sleek and more stylish. The sort of bag you could use for work and also at weekends.

Grey is a very good colour choice for a bag as is it an all season colour.

Second definitely but with hobo bags all your stuff gets lost at the bottom, IME. I bought a similar one at Christmas and ended up returning it.

How about this one from Jaeger. Beautiful quality, very simple, no visible branding (absolutely a no-no for me).

Dancergirl · 27/02/2015 11:14

That is nice niminy although from the picture it does look a lot bigger.

I might try the P & M one as I haven't seen it IRL. I suspect it might go back though!

I'd order both tbh, my P&M one is bloody lovely & I love it, but its such a personal thing, handbags, you need to see both of them irl to choose.
