Denim skirts - frumpy?

Dancergirl · 23/01/2015 20:02

I've got a denim skirt, mini-ish length, above my knee, which I haven't worn for ages.

I'm just wondering if it's had its day and I should chuck it or start wearing again?

Are denim skirts frumpy/mumsy? Because if so it's definitely going!

No!!! I have a just above the knee denim skirt, and I love it! I think it depends what you wear it with, obviously, but I think something like that is kind of a classic and never really goes out of fashion. Why do you think it's mumsy? (feeling a bit paranoid now, I'm a new mum, mustn't be mumsy!)

It depends what you wear it with I think, that look of denim mini over black cropped leggings looks a bit dated now IMO

I think the midi ones are, but loads of people don't. I think they make even slim people look as though they have big hips, bum and stumpy legs.

A denim skirt is a great basic. I would never throw mine away. I have a fab a-line one. It looks great with boots and tights. It in no way looks frumpy or makes you look stubby. I think straight cut ones might do that. I love mine and wont ever throw mine out. I have never like the leggings look with a denim mini.

I wear a short, dark denim one a lot - with opaques, boots and a polo neck in the winter, and with bare legs and Converse in the summer.

I hope not, I bought one this evening in the Gap sale and I was really pleased with it. Maybe the fact I have bought one will sound the death knell for the denim skirt.

Not a fan myself but apparently button down ones will be all the rage this summer.

I hate denim skirts. I hate the way the fabric is stationary. Skirts shouldn't stay still!

Plus they make the wearer's bum look flat and wide.

I've yet to see a denim skirt look fashion forward or stylish.

What would you wear with one silver?

It can look stylish, it can look sexy, its versatile, goes with loads, wear in summer, winter with boots, comfier than jeans and less restrictive..what the hell is not to like?????? Will be looking out for a button through a-line knee length one with wedges for summer to sport the hippy look!!!

Those are the Most frumpy outfits I've seen on Pinterest ever!
That said I do have a denim mini, haven't worn it for a couple of years though. I think it depends on the skirt and what you wear it with tbh.

Greengardenpixie those are 3 perfect examples of the appalling frumpiness of jean skirts. If I had looked for examples of what not to wear, I could have picked those.

The only time they work is very short cut off vintage jean mini on teens and early 20somethings.

I'm going to add 'denim skirts' underneath politics and religion to the list of things you shouldn't discuss with strangers. People have very entrenched views.

I don't think I've ever seen someone in a denim skirt and thought 'that looks good'. And I'm sure the denim skirt wearer couldn't give a fig that I've thought that.

I don't think denim skirts are frumpy, just a bit dated. I haven't worn my since circa 2002 and I hardly see anyone around town where them.

Agree about them making the bum look flat and wide. And also the static way the material makes the wearer look solid.
